Reading a Book a Day

Do you like to read?

Do you like to read a lot?

Could you read a book a day?

Could you write a review a day for the books you read?

For a year?

Longer?

Nina Sankovitch can and does. Look at her blog. Read All Day. It is simply amazing.

What hooked me on her blog is this, excerpted from her September 20, 2009 update about what makes a good book:

“I usually know within the first few sentences of a book that the writer has the magic to hold me tight while transporting me far away; I know almost right away that I will stick with this author — or NOT — through the whole book, that I am sunk in good and hard no matter whether I am made ecstatic with the journey or uncomfortable with the truth or sad with the reality or turned on by the randy bits and disgusted by the yucky bits, I am there for the duration, and beyond.”

That’s me exactly. I can tell right away if I am going to like a book. I may decide to read it even if the first few sentences grab me, but I won’t like it very much.

What about you? Can you tell immediately if you are going to like a book or does it take a while for you to decide? Tell us!

When I am sick, or on a beach vacation, I can read a book a day. Nothing else is happening though.

I have enough OCD that if I got started I could keep going.

I wouldn’t be messing with Facebook anymore. Boy that would be a big loss. Right? Wrong.

I wouldn’t watch the Dallas Cowboys any more. Yeah, I’m trying to think what I would miss from that.

It would be the only thing I blog about. Don’t laugh!

No more geocaching. As Sweetie cheers.

How about you?

Could you do it?

Would you want to do it?

What would you have to give up?

When are you going to start?

I love to read but it would be difficult to read a book a day. I’d have to give up way more than I’d like too except maybe cooking, cleaning, laundry…
One thing I’ve notice since I’ve gotten older, when I read I start to nod off! What’s up with that?
    Sunny 🙂

  2. Alyssa:

I LOVE to read…but there’s no way I could do a book a day with the Three Little Lams around (therefore…cooking, cleaning, laundry, chauffering, etc., etc)…I’m lucky to get through one a week. As you know I like to review and will continue to do so.

Totally with you on knowing right away if it’s going to be a book I’ll like. That last book I reviewed (that I hated) I knew I wouldn’t like by the first sentence.

So, I’ll take you up on your challenge, but not one a day…can you give me one a week?

There is nothing that I like well enough to do it all day every day. I like change. I like the challenge of doing different things. I want to create new things, then do something else.

Wait – I like to eat every day. That doesn’t count does it?

    See you tomorrow.

Would I read a book every day? No
the reason being is it would take the enjoyment out of reading for me. Honestly there are some days I am not in the mood to read.
I read every day though. Sometimes I might only spend an hour and some days I will read for several hours. Great questions!

@Kathy, great point. A book a day would be too much like work. My energy level varies too much also.

@Sunny and @Alyssa- I wonder also who would be doing all the cooking and cleaning. Especially if there are kids to take care of.

@TG – Yep, I like to different things also. Eating is close to the top of the list.

I usually read very fast. Fictions, I think I could read in a day, but non fictions are taking longer, but I realize that I am reading less and less. Reasons: podcasts, blogs and yes some facebook (farmville) :))

I’m with Kathy on this one – I love to savor a good read, almost to the point that I have a difficult time finishing a really good one.

I’m knee deep in “The Lost Symbol.” How can you tell? I haven’t posted at my blog since Saturday 🙂

I have recently given myself permission to put down a bad book and walk away. I used to tough it out, but now if things aren’t clicking by page 50, forget it. With two young boys, I can’t indulge in just OK. This is just one of the many thoughts that intimidates the heck out of me as I work on a short story myself.

I read at least a book a week, but one a day? Not unless the rest of the world stands still. Like you, I’d have to give up too much!
I should check out Nina’s blog, though. She’s probably already read and reported upon any book I’m considering…
