New Moon by Stephenie Meyer

Whew, just finished “New Moon.” I thought it was never going to end. I was reading Sweetie’s copy in amongst the library books that kept coming in.

OK, I’m not the target market for this book and I know that many of my woman friends love this book but I have to tell you it is awful. If teenage girlhood consists of whining and sulking and you like reading hundreds of pages of whining and sulking then this book is for you. If you like reading books where things actually happen and the story actually has a drive to it then go read something else.

To be fair there is a great 25 page short story embedded in these 563 pages. Go see the movie. The movie is not bad.

I give this book half a star. If it weren’t for the 25 interesting pages, it wouldn’t get any stars. Shame on me for reading the dern thing.

I have to agree with you on this one. The 2nd book in the series was a snore, but if/when you move on to the next book you’ll understand much more. The movie was much better than the book.

This book seemed interminable to me, too. I skimmed a lot of it.
Her best book to date, in my opinion, is The Host. It’s written for adults and has much more depth than the Twilight series.

I couldn’t manage to read it–made it about 10 pages and tossed it away. Now, the movies are a lot more fun.

Funny thing, when you talk about all the whining and sulking–The Secret Life of the American Teenager (TV) is absolutely full of it. Yet, when I mention this fact to my former students (young teenage girls) they look at me like I’m crazy. They simply don’t notice that the heroine is a great big weepy whiner. She is just like them, I guess, and all the drama seems very real…

I agree that it is just not a great book and is totally geared for the teenage market. It is really not written above a high school level but I did like the movie. The last book and first book were better.

Well, I say to you: :X

I LOVED the entire series. I also liked The Host. I think she is a phenomeonal writer. Sure, it was easy reading. It should be. It was written for teens. Even if this wasn’t the best one in the series, it was still hard for me to put down. I HAD to know what happened. =)

A series you AND SPB might like is called the Maximum Ride series by James Patterson. It’s awesome. Courtney is about finished with the first book. She is LOVING it. I’ve read all of them but the brand new one that came out.

I applaud you for even trying to read the Twilight series. It really isn’t a “man” series. And, to be honest, it’s only for cool chicks. (And, their mommas!) ROFL!
