It’s been hot and humid lately here in the heartland.
Let me talk about humid first. I put a ceiling fan on our back porch yesterday. It took me a lot longer than it should have to get it done because this one was designed to be installed by somebody with three hands and lots of manual dexterity. I stuck with it and got’er done though. And of course since my whole life is spent looking for something to blog about, I grabbed my camera and took a picture of my the ceiling fan in action. Here it is.
No fancy photo editing here. Just condensation on the camera lens. That’s humid.
Sweetie, as always is so appreciative anytime I get off my butt and actually do something she agreed to sit for a pic under the fan.
Lets talk about HOT.
Last week we decided to go to Nana’s house. Great, she has a pool, lets party! I decided I was going to run to Nana’s house. At about 2:30 in the afternoon. It was only 92 degrees but the heat index was over 100 degrees because of the high humidity. (Review above section on humidity of you need to.) So off I went (Sweetie and SuperPizzaBoy went in an air conditioned car.)
Things start out so nice. Here’s a dove in our flower bed. He didn’t want to go with me for some reason.
Things got hot fast.
I finally find some shade, I ran in the shade for a while instead of the designated trail. Don’t tell anybody, I’m sure I violated the law against shady running.
I stopped to smell the flowers but they weren’t looking the same.
I finally staggered to Nana’s front door. I was totally disoriented but there was an angel there to guide me. I was worried though, I didn’t know where she was taking me.
Man, I burned lots and lots of calories!!
Just don’t look at the pace. I’m sure many of you could of walked the distance faster.
I know it won’t make you feel any better, but it has been hot and humid here too!
The photo of the daylily looks hot indeed!
It’s been brutally hot and humid here too.
I honestly don’t know how anyone can run in the heat!
Take a break under your nice new fan 🙂
☼ Sunny
So did you hit that pool as soon as you arrived?
@Granny – I did jump in that pool and it felt great.
Wish I could send you some of our cool weather — it’s been sunny and beautiful, but the highs have been in the low 70s! And I love it! Glad you had that pool to jump in!! Have a great week and stay cool!

Yogi, I thought you had better sense than that. You’re lucky you didn’t wind up in the ER instead of Nana’s house.
You and my husband should start a club, Yogi – I’m sure Sweetie and I could find a good name for it… He biked 80 miles on a hot day while we were in AZ and had to call me 5 miles from the finish because he was very dehydrated and cramping badly. After (nearly) 44 years, I don’t even bother with “I told you so!” I DID look at your pace. I wear a Garmin, too – I got the 405 recently but also have one like yours I use to bike.
I have installed a few 3 handed fans in my day. I have a ceiling fan in every room.
Same heat and humidity here too! My glasses fog up every time I go outside.
I think you’re mad running in that heat – it has to be said I’m rather glad I live in cooler England where we never experience humidity! Sensible Sweetie & SPB
in an air-conditioned car:-)
I hope you jumped into Nana’s pool to cool down after that run, with the lifeguard on duty of course. Sweetie looked lovely and cool underneath the new fan. Think I am going to show hubby this post, you might have started something here 😉
An English Girl Rambles
We had a real bad heat wave in Europe too and trust me, the cities aren’t build for heat. There is no air-con anywhere for instance…
