Skywatch Friday – Oral Roberts University

The iconic Praying Hands at ORU. A few of the commenters mentioned that it looked like just one hand was up against a mirror. I didn’t catch that until they wrote it.

The “Praying Hands” originally were placed in front of the City of Faith. Did the building ever get completed and occupied? Originally, only about half of the floors were ever completed and even fewer occupied. The upper half of the building was a shell for many, many years.

Looks as though you’re enjoying the same kind of skies that we are in Seattle – GRAY! Personally, I’m ready for some change, but guess it will get here when it gets here! Hey, maybe that’s what those hands are praying for!!! Hope you have a great day!

he upper floors are still shells except for the very top which is occupied by a law firm. The old joke about the praying hands is that if you stand directly in front and pull out your wallet, they will open.

My goodness, when I first looked at the top photo, it looked like the sculpture was of a hand touching the flat glassy sky, just outlined by its own shadow. Kind of an optical illusion, and I’m not explaining it very well. But you got a wonderful angle on that one.

    Happy Skywatching!

Thos hands are so cool, and like the previous commenter noted, you have captured an interesting effect. I almost thought the hand was against a mirror for a second!

Thanks so much for sharing these wonderful photographs. I have never seen Oral Roberts University, but have always wondered what it all looked like. Liberty University is not too far away so we are always hearing about it on the news.
