Graffiti Wednesday – “Permission Zones”

A “Permission Zone” is a surface that graffiti artists have permission to practice their art.

To my knowledge Mad Mike’s Liquor Store near 11th and Mingo is the only Permission Zone in the Tulsa area. Almost every square inch of the store and an outbuilding are covered in graffiti. Even the power poles and dumpsters are decorated. I’d have to say though that the quality of the work to this uneducated eye is uneven.

Some of the images are really evocative.

Some are really puzzling.

SuperPizzaBoy and I found this image disturbing.

It is all fascinating to me. I’m still trying to get my head around graffiti.

I’m with you! I’m still trying to get my head around graffiti as well! This is a great idea though — if it keeps them out of places where you’d hate to see their “art”! Guess we do what we have to do???? Have a great day!

I am on the fence about graffiti … I saw some wonderful stuff being done when I visited Cincinnati in October but mostly I see destructive ‘tagging’ that is not in any way art

I’m glad graffiti artists have a legal place to work.
It is all indecipherable to me, much like the Native American rock art we see.

Felix is brandishing a fire arm. I love it, Yogi. OK – the soul participant in my Internet meme. I’ve started a linky. Will you post your link to this post on my site?

    Thanks!!!

Sullivan has fallen in love with Felix The Cat ever since we got the Roku.

Great graffiti art of the girl. That’s not easy doing that with spray paint, I imagine.

Today, I talked to an OKC Developer about my graffiti pics and he is interested in creating a sanctioned graffiti zone in Bricktown!

I’m not really sure how I feel about it. I love that the “art work” is pretty detailed and decent but looking at that last picture, how can you not find it TACKY at best? Oh well. I’m old school….but not as old school as you. 😉

WHAT? I’m KIDDING! I know you’ve missed me.
