The people of the city of Boston, and many others all over the world, are trying to make sense of what happened Monday. The trouble is that sane people will never understand things like this.

Those of us in Oklahoma, and New York City, and Newtown Connecticut, and countless other places have been left to pick up the pieces, bury the dead, and try to figure out what happened and why.
But still we just don’t get it or at least I don’t. Don’t be talking to me about original sin and we are all evil and so on. I get it, I believe it, but it doesn’t explain a thing. Yes we are all sinners but only a few us commit mass murder.
I’m not even sure that God understands. What we need is some comfort.
And some justice.

I hadn’t realised so many awful things happened on, or around, this date. Waco, Oklahoma, Columbine school and Boston – terrible atrocities. I grieve for and with you.

I think it’s impossible to understand. Thank goodness for the folks who so quickly identified who was responsible for this attack. Let’s pray nobody else is hurt while the catch the other guy.
I have mixed feelings on your last comment “one down and one to go”. Two wrongs don’t make a right. But we all need some closure. So, that is what gives me mixed emotions.

My gray world does seem to be grieving today. I will never understand the violence, the hatred in the world.

What a horrible, horrible act and a terrible tragedy for so many. I agree, there’s no way most of us can understand.
The rational mind will never truly understand irrational acts. Even if it was possible to answer all of the questions of who, when, why, how, what for, etc. I doubt if it would prevent very many of these senseless acts. We want to understand things so that we can fix them. The truth is, a broken mind is rarely ever fixed. Still, justice needs to be served.
The second suspect has been captured alive. His photos remind me of my son’s classmates.
I don’t understand the hatred of these murderers. Why are they killing innocent people?

I’m with EastCoastLife – why do these people live in a country where they hate the people so much? We have a guy called Abu Hamza, who is a Muslim cleric, and has been fighting extradition for years and, yet, preaches about hatred for the UK. If we’re so awful, why doesn’t he want to go home?

So true – We are all from Boston right now. Makes me very sad to see those that politicize the events. Can’t we all come together as Americans?

It is hard to understand what these two young men thought they were going to accomplish by killing and maiming innocent bystanders at a sports event? There is too much hatred and revenge in the world and no one is safe from those with malice in their hearts.
It is so sad to see the uptick in violence going around the world. On the positive side, it is heartwarming to see sane people coming together to support those affected.
