Ruby Tuesday 2 (On Sunday) – Snow, Snow, Snow, Snow…..

Abby Reporting

Today is the day that the weathermen of the world should be glad we live in America. In Russia they would be marched out and never heard from again. Abigail our snow dog, who is also Director of Backyard Security and Monitoring, came in this morning with a report of Snow.

Snow!!! Where did that come from. How am I supposed to do a Ruby Tuesday II post with snow. Well hide and watch.

We’ll start with the front door. How do you like them apples, or roses, or you know, the heart, and the trim paint? Not bad huh? Don’t worry I have more.

Now lets go to the back yard. Red Berries is what I see. I wouldn’t eat them if I were you. Except you weather men. Go for it. (I’m just kidding folks… or maybe I am not.)

Well lets go back to the front yard. I shoveled the driveway with my Crocs. Yep, Crocs with fleece lining. They are warmer than my hiking boots by far. How do you like my Cub Scout socks by the way?

How do you like my shoveling? We are the only one on the block with a shoveled driveway. Oh, yes, this has nothing do with Ruby Tuesday. I’m just bragging. But you already figured that out.

Lets go back inside and get back on the meme. This is my new tea cup that Nana, the world’s greatest MIL gave me for Christmas. I’m a coffee drinker not a tea sipper but I love Yorkshire Gold tea. It is as robust as any coffee.

House with Snow and New Paint on Shutters

Lets head back outside. We had our house repainted recently. Heather picked out the colors. I really love that reddish trim. She done good as we say here in Oklahoma.

Well, I’m going to leave you out here in the cold and go back inside. That’s kind of rude isn’t it. Sorry. I’m a Dallas Cowboys fan. We have become old, bitter, dried up and cynical. It doesn’t look like they will play in the Super Bowl for a long time. Actually, what the heck come on in, unless you are a weatherman. I may make you watch some Cowboys highlights. Of course they are on VHS tapes because the last time they were competitive was way before DVD’s were even invented. No wisecracks about that or back out in the snow you go, with the weathermen. I won’t make you eat the berries they will be eating.

Anyway Adios My Friends

Ruby Tuesday II (on Sunday)

First Snow

Still #snowing #tulsa #oklahoma and #cold #igersok

We had our first snow of the year  on Friday. It started with sleet and ice on Thursday during drive time home (fun, fun, fun, rednecks on ice!) and the snow started early Friday. Rather than play bumper cars I worked from home. I just love having that option.

Snowman Christmas

And I shoveled the driveway. It was a wet snow and it pretty much did me in. And again, for the thirteen years that we have lived in the house our driveway was shoveled first. Then three of my neighbors came out and shoveled theirs. I think I shamed them into it. I don’t feel bad, they shame me into mowing my yard in the summer. Our four driveways were the only ones shoveled in our part of the neighborhood.

Snowman Christmas

I was glad we had put our Christmas lights up outside while it was still warm. I hate putting up lights when it is cold and it is impossible with snow. It is not supposed to get above freezing until Wednesday. Oh, I’m already hearing the moans of sympathy from those who live in Colorado, Idaho, Minnesota, and Maine for me having to bear our brutish temperatures.

Snowman Christmas

So I turned on the outside lights while I shoveled. Sorry, I think lights with snow is pretty.

Snowman Christmas

Inside I got our gas log going. That’s Chrissy the Christmas Cat, our big, fat, lazy, Maine Coon. She’s going to not move from that fireplace except for eating and pooping until April.

Snowman Christmas

Heather worked hard decorating the house all day. She does a heck of a job and I’ll post some of her handiwork later. She has quite a collection of snowmen. These are just a few. She says she needs a snowman clock for kitchen and you know I think she does. Maybe we can get out today. The street in front is a solid sheet of ice but maybe it will be passable once the sun gets up.

The annual University of Oklahoma vs Oklahoma State University football game (called the Bedlam game) is being played today at 11 am. It is going to be below 20 degrees at game time. Lots of people I know are going. Those are known as crazy people. I just can’t imagine being interested in going to a game and freezing in a crowd. I am a casual fan of both teams. I prefer the professional version of the sport personally. Uh, I mean, the National Football League version.

So, how is Winter going for you so far?

Skywatch Friday – Winter is on its Way

Philbrook Trees edited

It was just a couple weeks ago that the temps were still warm and toasty and the grass was green. Things have changed since, the temps have dropped considerably, and tomorrow we are going our first cold blast. We expect to to get a wintry mix here in Tulsa and of course we are a panicky bunch so the milk and bread is all gone from the grocery stores along with the snow shovels.

Unfortunately we are not so careful driving on snow and ice. I mean why should we slow down or leave early. So we drive the same speeds and the body shops are going to make a fortune working on the cars for months to come.

I don’t think that tomorrow it is going to be like February 2011 as show above. That’s Chrissy, our big cranky Maine Coon who really doesn’t like being rousted from her nap for a snowy photo shoot in the back yard. As you can tell she was telling me about it. You can also see that her claws her out on her back feet. I’m wearing a canvas jacket and leather gloves and had  so she was a little frustrated. She likes to see blood when she gets mad.

Me, I don’t worry about the weather too much unless it involves tornadoes, then I worry a lot. I don’t worry about cold and snow. Our neighbors to the north have a lot more snow and a lot colder temperatures than we do and they do fine.

Skywatch Friday.

Blizzard Critters

The weather hasn’t been great here in Snowklahoma lately.

We hate to get out because of sights like this:

I hope the occupants are okay. Anybody besides me notice the Bermuda sign? I could do a little Bermuda or Aruba or somewhere right now.

We are tired of television, reading, and facebook so we have been watching who has been showing up at our bird feeders.

I’m not a bird guy but I think this is a junco. To me it kind of looks like a bird guppy. One thing I’ve learned about this meme is that if I’m wrong somebody will provide a gentle correction.

And we all know that this is a male cardinal.

I’ve gotten much attached to his girlfriend though.

A bluejay showed up for a little while. Not long enough to get a decent photo though.

This was the newcomer of the week. I studied on two bird books and a ipod touch app. I think it is a meadowlark. Whether eastern or western I don’t know. He hung out under the front yard feeder for hours. Long enough for me to wonder if it was ok.

Of course this guy always comes running when there is free food. I guess that he has to eat also.

Snowklahoma is OK

I am not sure where this started. I saw it first on Facebook from blog friend Terry of Coffee with Clark and when I googled it I saw it here. So I hope that I’m not stepping any toes but here goes.

Where the cold front’s sweepin’ down the plain

And the piles of sleet, beneath your feet

Follow right behind the freezing rain.

Ev’ry night my honey lamb and I

Travel home from work and hope some jerk

Doesn’t wreck our car in passing by!

We know we belong to the land

But it could use some more salt and more sand

That’s why we say…WHOA!

We’re the sliding the other way…YIKES!

We’re only sayin’

You’re slick as snot SNOWklahoma

SNOWklahoma, SNOW-K!

Of course it is hard to get sympathy in my family. Except for brother Bob who now resides in Corpus Christi, Texas I am the southernmost member of my family, by a long shot.

Have you ever seen more worthless cats than ours? Let me know.
