Weekend Reflections – Rainy Days

IMG_20140730_180706

It has been raining here in Tulsa lately, a lot. It is the all day soft steady kind rather than the hard driving flood producing damaging kind of rain. We have been going through a drought so hopefully we are breaking it. Northeast Tulsa is called green country because of all the trees and general lushness. All that lushness requires a lot of water and Tulsa gets an average of 47 inches of rain a year and so far this year we are about 10 inches short of that so I hope we are making it up a little bit.

47 inches a year sounds like a lot to me. That is almost four feet of rain a year!  No wonder we spend so much money on drainage projects and dams around here!

So what about you? Are you getting enough rain where you live?

Weekend Reflections – Tulsa’s Mayfest

Bartlett Square Fountain at 2014 Mayfest Edit

Mayfest is an annual festival in downtown Tulsa. It is a great place to go if you like to people watch as they wander around downtown looking at the arts and crafts booths, the food stands and all the music.

Mayfest Food Stand 2014 Edit

I like the colors and the sounds and looking at the different people who attend the fair.

ONEOK Gas Lights Edit

And of course I’m easily distracted. These are the gas lights at my employer’s parking garage. A gas company has to have gas lights right?

Sorry for the effects. I used Corel Paint Shop’s enamel effect.

Weekend Reflections – Becoming Part of the Tempietto Scene

IMG_8224

The most photographed structure in Tulsa has to be the Tempietto at the Philbrook Museum of Art. It is just gorgeous and I love it and love taking pictures of it even more. Last Saturday I was there and I was waiting for the above group to get the heck out of the way but they were obviously waiting on somebody to show up. Probably a blogger who got sidetracked by something they wanted to photograph or maybe even a geocacher who has lost sense of time. Or maybe they were the beginnings of a square dance flash mob Or you know, I don’t know.

Anyways, it struck me this group was kind of halfway colorful and I liked how their colors reflected in the water  and I will immortalize them forever in the Yogi’s Den archives. At no cost to them of course.

By the way, yesterday was my 2000th post on this humble blog. I appreciate all of you. Thank you. I’m part of a big group of people who are the bright spots of the World Wide Web.

Weekend Reflections – More Christmas Lights from Rhema Bible Church

IMG_7191

I’m apologizing up front. Just the other day I posted a bunch of photographs of the lights of Rhema Bible Church in the Tulsa suburb of Broken Arrow.

Sorry, but I like Christmas lights and they do a good job. They also have a pond that winds through their campus and makes for great reflections.

I bet right now that there is ice forming on the pond. It has cooled down into the low 20’s and it is supposed to get down close to zero tonight. Degress F, not C.

So I’m glad I took the pics when I did.

For the first bunch of years that we lived in Tulsa we didn’t go see the lights because we heard the traffic was bad. Well we braved it one night years ago and found out that there wasn’t any traffic. It seems like that happens a lot to me.

Have a great weekend! Get out and go see some lights. Don’t worry about the traffic just go.
