Skywatch Friday – Droning On

As I mentioned before, I got a drone for my birthday. It is a Mavic-Mini. A very small drone with with some big features. Mainly a built in GPS that enables it to hold its position and a nice camera. Click the link above, it has some fun videos and to be honest the drone is as easy to fly as it shows in the link.

I have been experimenting with it in various places. I went to a local freeway interchange that featured a very high overpass. The drone flew right up there and stayed in a pretty good wind. If you run the video you can see it bouncing around.

I took it to a local park and flew it around and it did fine. Got into some conversations about it with people. They thought that I was “very good at flying it.” Not really, its just that it is very easy to fly. This is my third drone, the other two were okay but they had a mind of their mind especially the slightest wind.

I got confident enough to fly it in our back yard where we have lots of trees in a small space.

This is toward the northeast of our house overlooking the greenbelt

More maneuvering around the back yard.

To the west toward the setting sun.

Looking down on our back yard. Abby is one of our three dogs. She loved the drone, barking at it and wagging her tail.

This has nothing to do with Skywatching or Drones or anything. This video of some Irish Dancing at a wedding caught my eye. I hope you don’t mind it. I thought it was cool.

That’s about it for this week. We are still trying to flatten the curve. I hope everybody stays healthy and takes precautions. I am linking with Skywatch Friday

That is a great birthday gift. Now you can have fun flying the drone around your area. You can take lots of great photos from the drone.

Hello, Happy belated birthday. The drone is a great gift. The views from the drone are wonderful, it has a great camera. Thanks for hosting Skywatch! Enjoy your day, wishing you a great weekend!

I’ve debated getting a done. They sell them at Costco. I think it would be great to get pictures of Sandia Mountain when it’s covered in snow or bright orange in sunset without powerlines and building getting in the way. This looks like fun.

Very cool!! I’ve thought about getting a drone. Pretty sure I would immediately crash it, but it would be fun getting desert videos, and fly up to hard to get to places. Problem is they are outlawed in the National Parks, which is where I do most of my hiking.

My son has a drone without a camera. I’ve never tried to fly it, but I enjoyed the sunset video a lot. When we saw the 2017 total eclipse of the sun in Columbia, SC there was a drone above the crowd we were in – I wish I could get hold of the footage it took. Must be amazing.

I enjoyed the drone shows … what a lovely neighborhood and backyard … and even the weather looks nice! ….. it’s amazing what those things can do! Thanks for the sweet smiles at the Irish Dance video too… we need all the smiles we can get these days for sure.

    What a great dance video!!!
I must admit, I’m a little envious of that drone. It looks like a great way to burn some time and get some awesome photos.
Trying to stay close to home and healthy. Made a trip to Walmart yesterday and there were more people there than I have seen in several weeks. You can almost feel the tension of this shelter in place thing. Now that the government has issued guidelines for re-entry and states are starting to set dates for the categories, the public can’t seem to wait until they can shop other stores and eat at their favorite restaurants. I think the first couple of weeks will be pretty hectic. Stay safe.
