Skywatch Friday – New Year’s Eve

2020 is about over. It has been a miserable year in many respects with the pandemic and here in the USA, and so much discord over the election, and race strife. The economy tanked and lots of people are suffering.

At work, we started working from home in March. I went ahead and retired at the end of May. It was strange. I went to the office and retrieved my personal things and there was nobody there besides the security guards on the first floor. So I said my goodbyes by phone and email and left my computer in my cubicle.

So our little family of three hunkered down together and you know what. I like staying home. I mean I get out every day but I can come and go as I please. I can take time to do stuff since I got my 40 hours a week back. I highly recommend retiring if you have the means.

We can go on weekday hikes if we wish!! Anyways, the pandemic will be tamed. I think our political situation will be volatile for the foreseeable future. Nothing I can do about that except to make sure that I am accepting of others. I am very thankful that I was able to retire. I am mindful that that is not available to many people.

Anyway, from our little crew of three, we wish you a Happy New Year!!

Come join the fun at Skywatch Friday!

Happy New Year to you and your family. It’s so nice seeing a blue sky for a change! I was sent home March 19 retired in mid April – no party, no cake, just signed off at 4:30 pm. But then signed back on as a part timer on Monday. I’ve been working part time ever since (haven’t missed a week); not the retirement I planned for but yes, I can come and go as I please, do necessary shopping during senior hours, and I’ve spent time walking at times where I never would have walked. Hoping 2021 is better for all of us.

Reading your text, it looks like we are on the same page. but about some of these I maybe more emotional. Good that my previous job helps me to put things on a more relative plane. Great skies for this New Years eve post … and no snow! All the best to you and your family for 2021!

I like retirement. When there is a storm, I always think – I don’t have to go to work or drive home in that mess. Wishing you a blessed new year with good health and happiness.

We feel very fortunate here in NZ about the position we are in, despite us starting out spending 6 weeks in hardcore lockdown, hopefully 2021 is going to be more positive for everyone around the world.

Gorgeous sky shots ~ and so glad you are enjoying your ‘next part of your journey’ and have 2 lovely companions plus your fur persons to share each day ~ Yes, the New Year will not offer utopia but certainly it has got to be better listening to a President who is at least sane and stable ~ hoping for the best ~

Wishing you a Healthy and Happy New Year,

Like you, I’m enjoying retirement and enjoy staying home (although I like to get out to the desert every couple of weeks for a hiking adventure of some sort). Unfortunately, I don’t think people are paying attention to our stay-at-home orders. Traffic is heavy and the stores are very busy. Happy New Year to you and yours!

Alan – I agree with you about retiring if one has the means. Best decision I ever made! I also like your attitude about the political arena – being understanding is the best we can probably do. Happy New Year to the merry band of three!

Beautiful blue sky to enjoy your hikes with your family. I too like retirement. No need to worry about getting to work late. Our time is our own to use as we like. May the New Year be a peaceful, healthy and safe year for you and love ones.

    Hello,

I am hoping for a happy and peaceful New Year! Your skies are beautiful, it is nice you are getting outside with your family for your walks. I am happily retired since Dec 2014, best decision I ever made. I wish you and your family all the best in 2021, a very happy and healthy New Year!

strange year indeed. we have a couple of new colleagues that I never saw in person (our videoconferencing is, ironically, mostly without video ;-). enjoy your retirement with your merry crew.

Seems your retirement came at the right time. I understand the stay home thing and also like it. Well, at least half the year.

It has been a very challenging year here in the States and back home in Canada. Worldwide there is much pain and turmoil. Hoping for a better new year. – Margy
