To the Oklahoma City Zoo and Beyond

A perfect storm on Friday, SuperPizzaBoy is on Fall Break, Sweetie needed a break so all of went on a road trip down the Turner Turnpike to see the Oklahoma City Zoo.
Rhino

My favorite, a ruddy black rhino getting a mud treatment.

What a sweet little kitty.

Picnik collage Bird 1

I forgot to note what kind of bird this is, but I thought him handsome. I guess that it is a him.

Picnik collage Turkeys

Does he look nervous to you. I think he is worried about his relatives this time of year.

Picnik collage Zoo

All sorts of wild critters, big and small.

An ostrich took a liking to SPB and followed us around.

I love pumpkins.

After a few hours at the zoo we refreshed ourselves at Belle Isle Brewery at 50 Penn Place.

And walked on down to Full Circle Bookstore. We bought more than we should but it is the best bookstore in the state.

SPB settled into his favorite chair.

The store has everything, a bunch of Shakespeare above (I don’t ever buy Shakespeare but they kind of set the tone.)

And then we went home.

I love Road Trips, Zoos, Brew Pubs, and Independent Bookstores. Don’t you?

Yep, I do love all of the above! Terrific shots of the animals! Your photos are the next best thing to being there myself and I do wish I was — well, for right now since it is gray, windy, rainy and generally yucky in Seattle! Hope all of you have a great weekend!

Wonderful animal photos! I love going to the zoo with my camera, one of my favorite things to do! Haven’t done it in a while though…field trip time!

Yes – I love all those things (well – the beer only occasionally when it’s really hot and maybe we’re stopping somewhere to have a pizza…). I really like thinking about the hippo relaxing in the mud, though – I’ve had some great mud treatments! Also, I like SPB’s spider shirt. Very cool. Who can fathom the need for Fall Break? Lots of kids in Breck this week, so I finally asked a harried parent, and she just shook her head and said “Fall Break!”

    Yes, yes, yes!

We went to the Zoo a few weeks ago and were absolutely enchanted with Malee, the new baby elephant.

I must get to FCB one of these days; a day I have lots of $$$!

Sounds like a wonderful day had by all! The zoo looks like a good clean one. And it’s hard to beat a visit to a bookstore. 🙂

Very nice zoo shots. Usually I’m not impressed with zoo shots because they look as if they were shot in a zoo (?). Yours are just wonderful animal photos. Love the cropping on the hippo.

I love going to the zoo, great critter photos. I believe the bird is the Sandhill Crane. It has the red on its face or head. Sounds like you had a great day!

I can’t go to the zoo without feeling like I’m supposed to be watching 10 or more ornery children. A throwback from my teaching days, I guess.
I miss that OKC zoo. It’s a good one!

Looks like you had quite a day! Such nice close-up shots of all the animals and they seemed to be cooperating and not showing you their backsides.

I’m sad to say that I’ve never been to the OKC zoo. I took EK to the Tulsa zoo a few weeks ago and it was pathetic! I’m with Baloney. I feel like I should be supervising a big group of trouble makers like I did when I was teaching and we went to the zoo.

I have a surprise for you in Monday’s post!
