Pope Francis has come to America and America likes it. His message of compassion seems to be touching a core to many of us Americans who are tired of the way things are. It seems to be an emotional experience for many of us, even us who are not Catholic. One of the things that interests me is that an Oklahoma Native American ballet company will be performing a small piece for the Pope Sunday in Philadelphia. The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.osageballet.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Osage Ballet Company<\/a> based in the tiny little town of Oklahoma will be <a href=\"https:\/\/www.osagenation-nsn.gov\/news-events\/news\/prayer-scene-wahzhazhe-osage-ballet-be-performed-philadelphia\" target=\"_blank\">presenting a segment of Wahzhazhe<\/a> a ballet made specially for them. Two sisters, <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Maria_Tallchief\" target=\"_blank\">Maria<\/a> and Marjorie Tallchief, both members of the Osage tribe were important dancers on the international dance scene. She was America&#8217;s first Prima Ballerina.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/lAytYlAsxtE?rel=0\" width=\"420\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Maria Tallchief&#8217;s &#8220;Sugerplum Fairy&#8221; made the &#8220;The Nutcracker&#8221; America&#8217;s most popular ballet. Maria Tallchief passed away in 2013.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Marjorie Tallchief HDR\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/28381904@N06\/15442384559\/\" data-flickr-embed=\"true\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm6.staticflickr.com\/5599\/15442384559_f9e3899c53_z.jpg\" alt=\"Marjorie Tallchief HDR\" width=\"361\" height=\"640\" \/><\/a><script src=\"\/\/embedr.flickr.com\/assets\/client-code.js\" async=\"\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Marjorie_Tallchief\">Marjorie Tallchief<\/a>\u00a0is Maria&#8217;s younger sister and also a great dancer. She was named\u00a0&#8220;premi\u00e8re danseuse \u00e9toile&#8221; of the Paris Opera Ballet. She is retired now.<\/p>\n<p>Both Maria and Marjorie Tallchief are named &#8220;Oklahoma Treasures&#8221; as two of five Native American Ballerinas who became became famous internationally for their ballet dancing. The others are <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Yvonne_Chouteau\" target=\"_blank\">Yvonne Chouteau<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Moscelyne_Larkin\" target=\"_blank\">Moscelyene Larkin<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Rosella_Hightower\" target=\"_blank\">Rosella Hightower<\/a>.\u00a0Collectively the five ballerinas are known as the &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Five_Moons\" target=\"_blank\">Five Moons<\/a>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/n6vtOtiheUM?rel=0\" width=\"420\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Anyways, I think the Pope is a little over-scheduled in his trip but I hope that he enjoys the brief performance by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.osageballet.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Osage Ballet Theater<\/a> during his time here in the USA.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>NewsOn6.com &#8211; Tulsa, OK &#8211; News, Weather, Video and Sports &#8211; KOTV.com | We have been having a welcome break from the whole Donald Trump\/ Hillary Clinton thing now days.
