{"id":13317,"date":"2021-05-10T09:28:49","date_gmt":"2021-05-10T14:28:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/yogisden.us\/?p=13317"},"modified":"2021-05-10T09:28:52","modified_gmt":"2021-05-10T14:28:52","slug":"a-visit-to-the-heart-of-route-66-auto-museum","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/yogisden.us\/?p=13317","title":{"rendered":"A Visit to the &#8220;Heart of Route 66 Auto Museum&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Earlier this month I visited the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.heartofroute66.org\/\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.heartofroute66.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Heart of Route 66 Auto Museum<\/strong><\/a> in the Tulsa suburb of Sapulpa. You can&#8217;t miss it, it is right on Route 66 and has this gigantic gasoline pump outside.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr wp-block-embed-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2kWi5Qd\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/51153895076_6c958d33ae_c.jpg\" alt=\" \" width=\"600\" height=\"800\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Ironically the museum has connections for charging electric cars in their parking lot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr wp-block-embed-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2kWoPhB\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/51155013455_3383da9f35.jpg\" alt=\" \" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>And then when you walk up to the entrance you pass these front ends of various cars on your way. Do you know what they are? I don&#8217;t, but I do know that there is a geocache nearby that I found a few months ago. The really good stuff though is inside the building. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr wp-block-embed-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2kWhSKw\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/51153854436_ceea028ac5_c.jpg\" alt=\" \" width=\"600\" height=\"800\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>They have a &#8220;Special Built&#8221; Maserati. Very swoopy.  It is not very high. I imagine it can go really fast. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr wp-block-embed-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2kWesgP\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/51153186757_a798cda021.jpg\" alt=\" \" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Pure function on the interior though. Not too much luxury but have you seen so many drink cup holders? (I am not sure that is what they are.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr wp-block-embed-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2kWmTv4\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/51154637409_f54a5eb54a_c.jpg\" alt=\"1958 BMW Isetta\" width=\"600\" height=\"800\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Then a little 1958 BMW Isletta. I think it is kind of cute.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr wp-block-embed-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2kWeuF8\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/51153194837_cb06fff684_c.jpg\" alt=\" \" width=\"600\" height=\"800\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Here&#8217;s a 1967 Amphicar, made to travel on the road and in the water. Made in Germany not many were made. I remember the 60&#8217;s when I was in grade school. We were lied to, by now all cars should be amphicars and not and fly as well. What happened to the future of the Jetsons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr wp-block-embed-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2kWhRSj\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/51153851466_752574fae3.jpg\" alt=\" \" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Here&#8217;s the propellers underneath the car. I watched a couple of videos about the car. One of them said that the problem is that the Amphicar combined the worst properties of a car with the worst properties of a boat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-4-3 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Carolina Traveler:  Amphicar\" width=\"625\" height=\"469\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/YZOWghGi5a0?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>I don&#8217;t see anybody wearing a lifejacket. I don&#8217;t think it would do very well in any sort of waves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr wp-block-embed-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2kWjd3p\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/51154114443_7e1006b9e3_c.jpg\" alt=\"1958 Messerschmitt\" width=\"600\" height=\"800\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Here is a 1958 Messerschmitt. I don&#8217;t know what the model is. The guy at the museum said that Messerschmitt was forbidden to build aircraft for a while after WWII so to keep things going, they built cars.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr wp-block-embed-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2kWn3c2\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/51154666639_cf0c03f68d_c.jpg\" alt=\"1947 MG\" width=\"600\" height=\"800\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>A 1947 MG. There is nothing like British Sports Cars in my opinion. Yes they were not very reliable and expensive to operate and maintain but they are beautiful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr wp-block-embed-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2kWmjNM\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/51154527425_32acf281e9.jpg\" alt=\"1955 Jaguar XK 140-MC\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>This car is owned by a friend of mine and is on loan to the museum (as most of the cars seem to be.) It is a 1955 Jaguar XK 140-MC. Talk about smooth beautiful lines this is it. I always loved Jaguars. Not the modern ones though. They are now expensive Fords in my opinion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And they have lots of other cars and car memorabilia. Check their <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.heartofroute66.org\/\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.heartofroute66.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">web site<\/a> for more info. I think they are open Tuesday through Sunday.
