{"id":13474,"date":"2021-08-02T08:54:23","date_gmt":"2021-08-02T13:54:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/yogisden.us\/?p=13474"},"modified":"2021-08-02T08:54:25","modified_gmt":"2021-08-02T13:54:25","slug":"our-world-on-the-trail-and-the-road","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/yogisden.us\/?p=13474","title":{"rendered":"Our World &#8211; On the Trail and the Road"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr wp-block-embed-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2meABuK\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/51349695567_daa76dd003_c.jpg\" alt=\" \" width=\"600\" height=\"800\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Sunday morning after dropping the kid off at work I headed to Turkey Mountain for a little hiking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr wp-block-embed-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2meHU18\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/51351116879_4d3cb8113b_c.jpg\" alt=\" \" width=\"600\" height=\"800\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><figcaption>Virginia Creeper?<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>I&#8217;ve been reading the novel, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.richardpowers.net\/the-overstory\/\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"http:\/\/www.richardpowers.net\/the-overstory\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Overstory by Richard Powers<\/a> and it is blowing me away with its talk of how trees in a forest are all interconnected and they exchange nutrients with one another and with other plants via a network of fungal hyphae, miles and miles of tubular fungus that exchange minerals with trees for sugar. I already read the book and then I started reading it again. It&#8217;s pretty amazing. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr wp-block-embed-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2meFgw9\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/51350603928_f61b6ef840_c.jpg\" alt=\" \" width=\"600\" height=\"800\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><figcaption>Hairy Ruellia?<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The woods on Turkey Mountain are very new. It used to be small farms and ranches but oil was discovered and what trees that were there were cut down for fuel for the boilers that powered the pumps. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr wp-block-embed-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2meArdh\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/51349660972_bb9c608ffb_c.jpg\" alt=\" \" width=\"600\" height=\"800\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><figcaption>Headache!!! I&#8217;m afraid some poor mountain biker hit his noggin.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>So the trees that are there now are pretty new and mostly skinny.  There are a few older ones that are bigger and are more spread out. I find the whole life cycle of tree thing to be fascinating.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr wp-block-embed-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2meKvgh\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/51351430610_14648e54a1_c.jpg\" alt=\" \" width=\"600\" height=\"800\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><figcaption>American Trumpet Vine maybe<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>I know that Sunday I pretty much had the place to myself. Most people on Turkey Mountain stick to the more established east side with its overlooks of the Arkansas River and well developed trails. The west side is a little wilder and the trails less established and mapped.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr wp-block-embed-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2meJ9fA\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/51351164814_6427a8a95d.jpg\" alt=\" \" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>I went all the over the the YMCA and took a pic. Not much going on there. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr wp-block-embed-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2meAEQs\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/51349706802_8f8c7f132b_c.jpg\" alt=\" \" width=\"600\" height=\"800\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><figcaption>Shining Sumac perhaps<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Just 3 miles but hey I was refreshed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr wp-block-embed-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2meGreS\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/51350831736_0125aa5227.jpg\" alt=\" \" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>In the afternoon I checked out Route 66 for some geocaching. I stopped one of my favorites. The Blue Whale of Catoosa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr wp-block-embed-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2meHABj\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/51351058368_5cc7237967.jpg\" alt=\" \" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Right next to it was this. Apparently it is supposed to be an Ark as part of a journey through the Bible attraction but it didn&#8217;t really take off.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr wp-block-embed-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2meHShN\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/51351111118_827fe6c279.jpg\" alt=\" \" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>I found this museum in Catoosa. It was closed but it has a great mural out back.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr wp-block-embed-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2meFzw1\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/51350664472_e3c9f77ee2.jpg\" alt=\" \" width=\"500\" height=\"376\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>And this is an old bridge on Route 66 that has been relocated.
