When the weather gets you down you have to learn how adjust if you don&#8217;t want to end up spending all summer on the dreadmill at the gym or mall walking.  Me, I am getting up earlier and getting out before it is too hot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr wp-block-embed-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2nANsLY\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/52246010760_9343d2e6a9.jpg\" alt=\"DSCF0283\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Back in March of this year the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cityoftulsa.org\/government\/departments\/park-and-recreation\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.cityoftulsa.org\/government\/departments\/park-and-recreation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">City of Tulsa Parks Department<\/a> announced that they had a grant to build some trails at Bales Park. Bales Park is right across a four lane highway from Turkey Mountain and there has been some talk of connecting the two trail systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr wp-block-embed-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2nAKVqm\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/52245515056_9877b7f1c4.jpg\" alt=\"DSCF0285\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><figcaption>The signs and netting were down on the ground so I figured I was good to go.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>I saw on Strava that a friend of mine checked out the trails so I thought I would. I think they are having a soft opening while they do finishing touches.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr wp-block-embed-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2nANsuF\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/52246009815_b83e99d272.jpg\" alt=\"DSCF0288\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Downtwon Tulsa from the trail at Bales Park looking north. Rumor has it that they are making it so that Bales Park and Turkey Mountain can interconnect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr wp-block-embed-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2nAKZ1V\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/52245527153_f1be738b5e.jpg\" alt=\"DSCF0289\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Turn 90 degrees to your right and look east. That is Turkey Mountain right across the road. Oh well time to move on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr wp-block-embed-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2nANs7g\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/52246008515_bd14253f87_c.jpg\" alt=\"DSCF0292\" width=\"600\" height=\"800\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The trails that city is building using <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.roguetrails.com\/\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.roguetrails.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Rogue Trails<\/a> as a contractor look a lot like the recent trails built on Turkey Mountain. An emphasis on shedding water to avoid erosion and making the trails &#8220;flowy&#8221; back and forth and up and down, side to side. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr wp-block-embed-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2nAMmWN\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/52245796034_ab395e00b4_c.jpg\" alt=\"DSCF0299\" width=\"600\" height=\"800\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Sure the flowy parts are for the mountain bikes but they are good trails to hike on as well and they will last longer and require less maintenance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr wp-block-embed-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2nAKXTz\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/52245523363_21ca007155_c.jpg\" alt=\"DSCF0298\" width=\"600\" height=\"800\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The trails go deep into Bales Park in areas where I doubt many people have been Lots of big oak and hickory trees there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr wp-block-embed-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2nANrMt\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/52246007425_1da0db728c_c.jpg\" alt=\"DSCF0295\" width=\"600\" height=\"800\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>It&#8217;ll provide a great alternative to Turkey Mountain which on weekend afternoons can get crowded in the parking lots. Although, you get a quarter mile down any of the trails you are basically by yourself on the busiest of days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr wp-block-embed-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2nAMnFo\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/52245798504_559dd5e3cf.jpg\" alt=\"DSCF0294\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Today, it was just me. And an equipment operator from Rogue building trail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr wp-block-embed-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2nAKYe9\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/52245524498_f86f4b1113_c.jpg\" alt=\"DSCF0296\" width=\"600\" height=\"800\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>I gave him a wide berth. Supposedly there will be about 3 plus miles of trail. I made it to just over two miles today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr wp-block-embed-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2nAETMc\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/52244533977_c456d612bb.jpg\" alt=\"DSCF0304\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>I didn&#8217;t see any critters besides a few squirrels and birds. Despite being early in the day it was still kind of hot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr wp-block-embed-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2nAKTCU\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/52245509056_bb2988e072.jpg\" alt=\"DSCF0303\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>I&#8217;m very happy about this latest addition to the Tulas Trail scene. The Gilcrease museum up in north Tulsa is raising funds to build an extensive trail system on property they have adjacent to the museum and connect their trail to the Katy Rails to Trail system which connects to the Tulsa River Parks system (as does Turkey Mountain&#8217;s trails). I love interconnected trails. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr wp-block-embed-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2nANqEJ\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/52246003670_8a371d9e64_c.jpg\" alt=\"DSCF0305\" width=\"600\" height=\"800\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>I think the city is having a grand opening set for sometime in August or so for their new trails. I am not into crowds so I&#8217;ll just be happy with the mini grand opening I treated myself to today.
