Of course, nothing since 2020 has been normal. This year I wasn&#8217;t able to attend the festival which includes art and performances and food because of the weather but I did make it to the gallery to see the Ofrendas or altars to the dead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr wp-block-embed-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2nXudBi\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/52480097503_a9c0ddf6d5.jpg\" alt=\"_DSC0354\" width=\"500\" height=\"346\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>I love the ofrendas. They are made to honor the dead. They have a lot of symbolism in terms of the colors and decorations used. <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/blog.poudrelibraries.org\/2017\/11\/symbolism-dia-de-los-muertos-altars\/\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/blog.poudrelibraries.org\/2017\/11\/symbolism-dia-de-los-muertos-altars\/\" target=\"_blank\">Here is a great article<\/a> about the symbolism. Many of the altars adhere to the pattern others do not so much. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr wp-block-embed-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2nXoRPL\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/52479052022_33000d2ab4_c.jpg\" alt=\"_DSC0356\" width=\"494\" height=\"800\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>I look at them as stories of a person&#8217;s life as told by the loved ones. Religious faith, professions, hobbies, loved ones, favorite foods, sports teams, and other facets of a person&#8217;s life is displayed. Obviously almost all of these people were much loved when they were alive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr wp-block-embed-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2nXoRaK\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/52479049817_e05fce06f5_c.jpg\" alt=\"_DSC0369\" width=\"533\" height=\"800\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>So I try to never miss these. They are wonderful works of art with meaning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr wp-block-embed-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2nXoQcN\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/52479046572_f1ccf7670d_c.jpg\" alt=\"_DSC0378\" width=\"533\" height=\"800\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr wp-block-embed-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2nXtKFm\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/52480006910_83f57c6963.jpg\" alt=\"_DSC0379\" width=\"500\" height=\"349\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>This ofrenda was finished off by sand on the floor below with a beach scene. That could be mine, or a small trail in the woods.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr wp-block-embed-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2nXsNpd\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/52479820954_59ee474e13.jpg\" alt=\"_DSC0380\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr wp-block-embed-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2nXtKj9\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/52480005680_faacf45efa.jpg\" alt=\"_DSC0382\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Some ofrendas were communal such as this one offered up students at a local school or who made painted rocks in memory of a loved one of theirs that they had lost.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr wp-block-embed-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2nXuaHx\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/52480087773_1c21c427d7_z.jpg\" alt=\"_DSC0390\" width=\"528\" height=\"640\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Dallas Cowboys merchandise was displayed on three of the altars. I have. I think it would be interesting and emotional coming up with a design and gathering the various elements and then putting it together. I think it is good to remember people. I am not one who wants to get rid of reminders of people.
