{"id":14457,"date":"2023-04-17T08:44:02","date_gmt":"2023-04-17T13:44:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/yogisden.us\/?p=14457"},"modified":"2023-04-17T08:44:04","modified_gmt":"2023-04-17T13:44:04","slug":"the-art-of-diego-rivera-at-crystal-bridges-museum","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/yogisden.us\/?p=14457","title":{"rendered":"The Art of Diego Rivera at Crystal Bridges Museum"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>My wife and I made a little trip earlier this month to nearby Bentonville, Arkansas for a little getaway and also to check out <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/crystalbridges.org\/\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/crystalbridges.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art<\/a>. They have a special exhibition of the art of Mexican artist, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.britannica.com\/biography\/Diego-Rivera\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.britannica.com\/biography\/Diego-Rivera\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Diego Rivera<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr wp-block-embed-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2orrwsp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/52796434091_40978d0c51_c.jpg\" alt=\"Diego Rivera\" width=\"600\" height=\"800\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Rivera was a controversial figure.  He was dedicated to his fellow Mexicans and their struggles and was attracted to communism.  He was a great artist by any measure. I knew him by his murals but he also painted a great deal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-provider-flickr wp-block-embed-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2oroEAa\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/52795876117_1be672177f.jpg\" alt=\"The Flower Carrier\" width=\"494\" height=\"500\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>My favorite work. The staggered man under the weight of the flowers, the colors. Everything about this seems perfect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr wp-block-embed-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2orsTDy\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/52796700494_6de838d228_z.jpg\" alt=\" \" width=\"513\" height=\"640\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>I love how he uses colors. The figures are very solemn and wooden. I think he did a great job portraying the culture of rural Mexico.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr wp-block-embed-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2orrA1S\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/52796446066_1fedcd4aa5_z.jpg\" alt=\" \" width=\"525\" height=\"640\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr wp-block-embed-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2orrwuP\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/52796434231_9ed1c1dc3f_z.jpg\" alt=\"Portrait of Francie Ford Seymour and Frances De Villers Brokaw\" width=\"613\" height=\"640\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>This painting struck me. It is a portrait of Francis Ford Seymour and Frances De Villers Brokaw. Seymour was a wife of Henry Fonda and the mother of Jane and Peter Fonda. Brokaw is a daughter from another marriage.  Rivera spent much time living and working in California.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr wp-block-embed-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2orrxDn\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/52796438091_20d3c9dc52.jpg\" alt=\" \" width=\"500\" height=\"241\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr wp-block-embed-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2ortvYo\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/52796822690_9e3869b437.jpg\" alt=\" \" width=\"500\" height=\"245\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr wp-block-embed-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2oroEAR\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/52795876157_3eb43c0875.jpg\" alt=\" \" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>They had some interesting HD video of some of Rivera&#8217;s murals. They were startling because these works of art are at street level and every once in a while somebody will walk by.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are 120 works of Riveras on display and at the end Heather and I were worn out.
