{"id":15273,"date":"2024-11-12T08:55:36","date_gmt":"2024-11-12T14:55:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/yogisden.us\/?p=15273"},"modified":"2024-11-12T08:55:37","modified_gmt":"2024-11-12T14:55:37","slug":"2024-tulsa-veterans-day-parade","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/yogisden.us\/?p=15273","title":{"rendered":"2024 Tulsa Veterans Day Parade"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Monday was Veterans Day so I went to downtown Tulsa to see their annual Veterans Day Parade. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr wp-block-embed-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2qtyXLv\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/54133231553_f3b87bc40b.jpg\" alt=\"_DSC0589\" width=\"500\" height=\"491\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The Tulsa Police Department opened it up with their motorcycles and right behind them was a Junior ROTC Marine Color Guard looking sharp in their uniforms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr wp-block-embed-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2qtzhbh\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/54133293484_ecbfbdf272.jpg\" alt=\"_DSC0590\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>And then dignitaries in vintage military vehicles. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr wp-block-embed-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2qtxuW3\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/54132946166_6a382bf6b9.jpg\" alt=\"_DSC0594\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>And then the floats. This one was done by my former employer. ONEOK (pronounced One Oak) always shows up big for the Veterans Day Parade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr wp-block-embed-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2qtxuXa\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/54132946231_262da22fe0.jpg\" alt=\"_DSC0596\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>And then a bunch of ONEOK employees followed the float. Other companies had floats as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr wp-block-embed-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2qtzgy5\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/54133291384_7b44f40af2.jpg\" alt=\"_DSC0600\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>And then another JROTC color guard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr wp-block-embed-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2qtzg8W\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/54133289984_3a38eb0c9e.jpg\" alt=\"_DSC0602\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The Booker T Washington High School Marching band shows up for the parade looking snappy in the uniforms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr wp-block-embed-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2qtzg8k\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/54133289949_72d3a3c486.jpg\" alt=\"_DSC0603\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>And the Tulsa County Sheriff&#8217;s Department shows up with one of their armored vehicles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr wp-block-embed-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2qtxueB\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/54132943821_c2bf33d7a6.jpg\" alt=\"_DSC0604\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>And if you know tornado belt culture you know that Storm Trackers are celebrities. When they are not working they go to events and will sign autographs for you. Here is Van Castor&#8217;s pickup truck. These guys follow the storms and tornadoes as they develop. Here in Oklahoma we don&#8217;t run for shelter when the tornadoes come, we run outside to take a look at them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr wp-block-embed-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2nhySwn\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/52039662153_b019b5f102_c.jpg\" alt=\" \" width=\"600\" height=\"800\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>One veteran didn&#8217;t make the parade. Here is my brother Bob. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr wp-block-embed-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2mgVnNR\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/51375989641_ae4dc439d9_c.jpg\" alt=\" \" width=\"600\" height=\"800\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Twenty years in the Navy and more afterwards as a civilian employee. This is his door wreath put together by our sister Ellen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr wp-block-embed-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2nVNUWX\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/52461112227_c0da1a2a56_c.jpg\" alt=\" \" width=\"533\" height=\"800\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>He is in assisted living here and living life. Left to right, Irv (Career Army Vet), his wife (and sister to Bob and I) Ellen, son to Heather and I, Logan, and kneeling my wife Heather.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr wp-block-embed-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2d8UoQV\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/4884\/46034411901_cf06c38a81.jpg\" alt=\"20181124-133858-18\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>A photo I took of Bob several years ago when he turned 66.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr wp-block-embed-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/8VdofM\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/5001\/5196687873_fccc845260_c.jpg\" alt=\"20101121_43\" width=\"600\" height=\"800\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Here he is in Tulsa several years ago. He used to visit and run in our local half marathon. He&#8217;s run over a hundred half marathons and over fifty full marathons.
