{"id":15627,"date":"2025-08-23T12:10:02","date_gmt":"2025-08-23T17:10:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/yogisden.us\/?p=15627"},"modified":"2025-08-23T15:30:52","modified_gmt":"2025-08-23T20:30:52","slug":"saturdays-critters-oxley-nature-center-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/yogisden.us\/?p=15627","title":{"rendered":"Saturday&#8217;s Critters &#8211; Oxley Nature Center"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Last Sunday morning I grabbed my camera, bug spray, and sunblock and headed to Tulsa&#8217;s Oxley Nature Center to see what I could see.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr wp-block-embed-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2ro7ayv\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/54727777489_80a7f2a0bb_c.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"800\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Right at the visitor center entrance I found this bush quivering with all sorts of butterflies. Can&#8217;t really see all of them in the photo so check out the short video below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-9-16 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Butterflies at Oxley Nature Center\" width=\"528\" height=\"938\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/rKe9CP5Wqg4?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>It was a good start to my outing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr wp-block-embed-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2rnZ1o3\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/54726380822_f4c1a2d67a_z.jpg\" alt=\"_DSC1048\" width=\"615\" height=\"640\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>I went a little ways into the trails and found this guy, a red spotted purple butterfly from what google lens tells me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr wp-block-embed-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2rnZ17X\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/54726379947_c95a15c508.jpg\" alt=\"_DSC1060\" width=\"500\" height=\"453\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>And later on I found a great blue heron looking for their lunch. Those little guys are active flitting here and then there. I am still learning how to spot the little ones and take photos of them. Sometimes I just have to be happy with spotting a glimpse of them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr wp-block-embed-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2ro78b4\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/54727769459_11029df788.jpg\" alt=\"Matrix of Merlin ID&#039;s\" width=\"500\" height=\"334\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>So I heard a lot more birds than I got photos of them. It is nice hearing them and the Merlin app is wonderful deciphering what kind of birds there are.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr wp-block-embed-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2ro5mbF\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/54727423003_979fb20c25.jpg\" alt=\"_DSC1058\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Sometimes I see a lot of deer at Oxley. The Oxley staff says they are overpopulated with deer. There is lots of food for them now, not so much in the winter. They are generally protective of their babies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So I wibble wobbled around the preserve for a little less than three miles and enjoyed myself thoroughly. And to part, a poem from the former Artist in Residence at Oxley, Sasha. I thought it was pretty cool.
