I mean I learn things that I had no clue about. A recent trip to Tulsa&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/philbrook.org\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/philbrook.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\"><strong>Philbrook Museum<\/strong><\/a> taught me something. It was about a photographer named<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gordonparksfoundation.org\/gordon-parks\/photography-archive\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.gordonparksfoundation.org\/gordon-parks\/photography-archive\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Gordon Parks<\/a>.<\/strong>  I had never heard of him before, but it turns out he was a major talent. (Check out his <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Gordon_Parks\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Gordon_Parks\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Wikipedia page<\/a>.) He bought his first camera when he was 28 years old and taught himself how to take photographs. He went to work as a fashion photographer at a woman&#8217;s clothing store. He eventually opened his own portrait studio<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr wp-block-embed-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2rZYRTN\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/55133746128_62c684dc8c.jpg\" alt=\" \" width=\"500\" height=\"432\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>He specialized in portraits of society women. He also photographed the life of African Americans in Chicago. He eventually worked for the government in various capacities. After World War II, he became a freelance fashion photographer for Vogue Magazine. Then later for Life Magazine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr wp-block-embed-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2rZTmwL\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/55132671792_621f91bfb1.jpg\" alt=\" \" width=\"500\" height=\"307\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Parks also directed films. He wrote and directed Shaft, a detective film and several others. He had a very productive life and died in 2006.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr wp-block-embed-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2rZTns8\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/55132674887_17b4e10dd6.jpg\" alt=\" \" width=\"500\" height=\"311\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The thing about photographers is that they have that &#8220;eye&#8221; for things. They can take great photos regardless of the equipment they are using. I used to work with a woman who had that eye. She would win the company&#8217;s photography awards using just her phone for a camera.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr wp-block-embed-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2rZZ8CV\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/55133799089_44fdcb50bc_z.jpg\" alt=\" \" width=\"525\" height=\"640\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr wp-block-embed-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2rZZUZh\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/55133951650_248b19acfb.jpg\" alt=\" \" width=\"500\" height=\"314\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>That eye is everything.
