I love their distinctive call and style of flying. Despite their fierce appearance what I read is that they don&#8217;t look for little mammals on the ground, they like to catch flying insects to eat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr wp-block-embed-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2sAvTuW\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/55524560866_625a73740a_c.jpg\" alt=\"Merlin Screenshot - 12 Sep 2026\" width=\"370\" height=\"800\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I turned my Merlin App on for a few minutes a while back in the backyard. It has better ears than I have. It is amazing what it can do.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr wp-block-embed-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2sAPPgW\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/55528058672_948a83f172.jpg\" alt=\"Sparrows on a Fence\" width=\"500\" height=\"500\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And a collection of sparrows on a fence that I photographed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr wp-block-embed-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2sBhtyA\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/55533260382_0ca7abd89c.jpg\" alt=\"Philbrook Gardens Hippo\" width=\"491\" height=\"500\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To finish this post off, &#8220;Hippo&#8221; by John Kearney in the Philbrook Museum Gardens here in Tulsa. It&#8217;s made of welded chrome bumpers.
