The Yogis went to see G-Force Sunday afternoon. It is about an elite force of guinea pigs who save the world from (Spoiler ahead) certain destruction. It may be the funniest movie I have seen in a long time. I rate it 3.5 stars out of 4. Its not just a kids movie that the parents will like. It is a movie that parents will like without the kids.
Go see the web site. It has trailers and games and is a lot of fun.
Guess what, Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince is a darn good movie. Just like the other movies, just like all the books. I love the book and love the movies. I love how the books changed as the characters got older and so are the movies.
The main story is you know, foiling the dastardly plots of “you know who.” That’s great. What I loved though is that the hormones have kicked in big time for Harry and his pals and gals. I love the wistful looks, the tortured expressions. Emotions are running high! I love it.
Go look at the the movie’s web site. Movie web sites are absolutely wonderful. You can look and do all sorts of stuff. You can even check out the latest news. I was absolutely stunned to find me in the Daily Prophet.
Last weekend the Yogi’s went to see “Up” the new animated Disney – Pixar movie. It’s basically about an old guy, Carl Fredrickson, that wants to move his house to South America to a waterfall to fulfill a promise that he made to his late wife. So he ties a bunch of balloons to the house and after the house breaks free and is heading south, he finds out that he has a stowaway, Russell, a Wilderness Explorer.
Anyway, Fredrickson and Russell have a great adventure down in South America involving some bad guy. Lots of close calls and heart warming type stuff happens.
If you want to find out what happened at the start of the movie talk to Sweetie or SuperPizzaBoy. I was fast asleep. Apparently a lot of the back story with Frederickson and his bride as children that explains why he wanted to move his house down there in the first place. Yawn, like I said I slept through it. Talk to Sweetie if you are interested. I wasn’t. She slept through the last half of the movie.
Anyway it was an ok movie except how good could it be if so many people were snoozing. Good kid flick. 2.5 stars out of 4. Sorry. Hey visit the web site. It is amazing.
Last week the Yogi Family went to see “Night at the Museum Battle of the Smithsonian.” I enjoyed it thoroughly even though the critics didn’t like it as much as the original “Night at the Museum.” I agree, it wasn’t as good, but it was still very good.
Check out the web site for the movie. The web sites for movies are some of the best stuff on the internet. You will find information about the movies, games for the kids, trailer, all sorts of fun stuff.
Ben Stiller, Robin Williams, and Owen Wilson are great. Amy Adams plays a cute and sassy Amelia Earhart.
I rate this movie 3 stars out of 4. A kid movie that a grownup can enjoy. What more do you want?
Sweetie and I dropped SuperPizzaBoy off for a birthday party and sleepover. We took advantage of our childlessness to have a date. Dinner and a movie. We ate at Louie’s. We went to see the new Star Trek movie.
This Star Trek has all new actors playing the parts. It is about time! There is only one original Star Trek actor left. Watch the movie and find out who. I’ll say this at the risk of making Trekies mad. The original series, as good as it was, is not as good as some of the followup series and movies. This latest movie in particular is very good.
One bright spot for guys is that in this movie the women’s uniforms are again short dresses!
Sweetie and I went to see “Duplicity” last weekend. A movie starring Julia Roberts and Clive Owens. They play a pair of ex CIA Spies who have gone over to the private sector. They of course fall in love (I didn’t mean to spoil the movie for you!) but don’t quite trust each other. They work as industrial spies for two competing home products companies who CEO’s hate each other.
The movie is kind of a satirical comedy and I love Julia Roberts’ wry performance. She has really turned into a great actress, and she is looking better than ever! Clive did ok.
I found the movie almost impossible to follow. There are so many twists and turns. I would like to see it again. It is one of those movies that could have had several endings, and maybe did. I’m not sure that I liked the end they chose. But they kept me guessing.
I give the movie three stars our of four. The acting was good but the movie was almost impossible to follow.
The movie does have a great website though. Much better than average.
SuperPizzaBoy and I are batching it Friday night. Sweetie is out of town helping her Mother, Nana get ready to move to Tulsa.
We went to the video store to find something. We settled on Mary Poppins. I have not seen it since it came out. The first time, a long time ago.
We started the movie and and put the pizza in the oven to heat. SPB picked the pizza out at the grocery store. He says that Digiorno makes the best frozen pizzas. It is pretty good, for a frozen pizza.
Lets see, of those present, who is interested in the movie, and who is interested in the pizza cooking? Need a hint, I was standing in front of the oven while taking this picture. Excuse me a second (for crying out loud pizza boy move away from the tv a little. You sit that close, all your kids are going to be born naked!) Ok, I’m back. Lets move on.
The movie was better than I remembered it. Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke do a great job. The singing, the dancing, the romance, the magic. I could see this again. I rate it four stars out of four.
Below is SPB’s favorite dance number “A Step in Time” with the chimney sweeps. SPB loves chaos, and this long number has lots of it especially about 6 minutes into it.
The family went to see Monsters vs Aliens 3D version Sunday. The movie is a lot of fun. I would definintely recommend the 3D version as the effects are incredible. The story? Who cares? The jokes and the action is non-stop. This is a kids movie that is fun for the parents also.
With the 3D I give this movie 3 stars out of 4. Without it? – You have to see the 3D.
Sweetie is in Southeast Oklahoma tending to business so SuperPizzaBoy and I went to see Race to Witch Mountain. A PG rated Disney movie.
The movie is about a Taxi Driver and two teenage aliens who save the earth by subverting the evil designs of our federal government hot on their trail plus an alienbot programmed to kill the kids. The movie is entertaining as far as it goes and is really not bad. I may have erred by taking SPB as he is only 10 and I think the target market may be more the 14 to 16 year old kids. There was lots of fighting, bombs, violence, etc but it didn’t seem to bother SPB too much.
One thing that annoyed me is that the script included a few GD words. Their use was totally gratuitous and not necessary. I am not not a prude and for adult movies I prefer language to be appropriate and realistic to the settings so if the words are appropriate and natural to the scene then, by all means throw a few in. In a movie that kids are going to see, hold off a little bit!
Anyway, SPB and I enjoyed ourselves and the movie was well done for what it is. I give it 2.5 stars out of 4.
Sweetie and I were childless last night so we went to see Slumdog Millionaire. It is one hell of a movie. It keeps you your attention from the openning scene to the finish and then on into the credits. It is on one of the best movies I have ever seen. Is Bollywood taking over Hollywood? Could be if they keep making movies like this.
This movie has everything: Romance, chase scenes, shooting, extreme poverty, extreme wealth, tension. It even has trivia questions. I don’t know how to classify this movie.
I rate it four stars out of four.
R rated so keep the kiddos at home.
