Found while wandering around San Antonio north of downtown.
I worked in south Texas when I got out of college years ago. Tejano music was huge then. Remember Freddy Fender? He was born, Baldemar Garza Huerta, in San Benito, Texas. It doesn’t get any more “south Texas” than San Benito.
Great looking signs and yes, Freddie Fender is a good music memory.
You and My Honey like to get pictures of signs painted on buildings. Love it! Most bring great memories of the past. Some are faded memories of the past.
More fun signs! I love it! And Freddie Fender is indeed a good music memory! Your post today stirred up a lot of those! Have a great day!

I remember Freddy Fender! From those commercials they used to have on the TV or long ago, for music collections of all sorts. His name always scrolled by on the lists of recording artists that were in the compilations.
Your photos are exquisite. The colors and vintage. Wonderful.
Sorry it’s been a while since I visited here. I am catching up!
It’s somewhat comfortable to know that Tejano music is till being played somewhere. For some reason I’ve always heard it referred to as Tex-Mex music. I wonder if that’s a northern thing…or just my faulty memory.
So did you go in there and do a little Mexican hat dance? Or just enjoy a beer and watch the locals?
You seem to have found a sign to make you stroll down memory lane.
You have my brain working…..
Love this!
While I don’t know Freddy Fender…(Is that bad?) Just looking at this picture makes me think of visiting Texas and shooting tequila!
and even with such a simple sign, I bet it is a jumping place some nights!
O don’t know the term “Tejano” but I think I remember the name of Freddie Fender! I so love signs with interesting stories/connections attached!
Great local color – I doubt you see signs for Tejano music anywhere else in the US. And of course I remember Freddie Fender, though I feel old just writing that.
Thanks for shopping by Wrenaissance. Have a great day and great weekend!
I remember Freddie Fender’s name, but not his music.
