Sweetie got me a Kindle for my birthday. Amazon has loads and loads of free books you can download to it so I thought I give Pride and Prejudice a try. So I read it and I liked it. There isn’t any sex nor violence in it, no cuss words either. What it does have is sparkling dialogue. The characters talk and talk and talk in whole paragraphs. And the dialogue is dense with lots and lots of information. This is a book that could be read a dozen times and still not discover everything the book has to offer.
Young Elizabeth Bennett, the main character of the book, is quite the woman. She can flirt with the best but when she gets her dander up she lets loose. She blasted Lady Catherine de Bourg when the old hag showed up and demanded that Liza not marry Mr. Darcy. The little teenager sent the royal dowager packing.
Now as far as the great romance between Liza and Mr. Darcy, I don’t get it. Mr. Darcy is one of the most pathetic guys I have ever read about. He shows up day after day all distant and removed. And what is funny to me is that Liza doesn’t see much in him until she goes to his house and falls in love with it. Then she thinks she might be able to tolerate him a little bit.
Oh, well. I’m a guy, I’m not supposed to get the romance. The book is good though. I give it three stars out of four. I’l be reading more Jane Austen.
I love to read and I know that I read Pride and Prejudice years ago, maybe I’ll read it again because I don’t remember much of it.
A Kindle is on the top of my wish list!
Sunny 🙂
I think my husband reads your blog now, so I will say “honey, I REALLY want a Kindle for Mother’s Day!!” 🙂
Jane Austen is one of my favorite authors. But all the leading men are somewhat “off”.
I love Jane Austen.
Awwww my all time fave book, I have read it once a year for the past 25 yrs and you’re right about it giving more away. I am very impressed you read this, wtg sweetie!
I read this book this summer, and I just wanted to smack Mr. Darcy. As far as Jane Austen goes, I’m not to sure. Though I did buy 6 Jane Austen books all at once thinking I’d finish them in a summer (didn’t happen as it’s almost next summer). So I guess I’ll read some more of her and decide.
Ah-Ha! You’ve joined the Kindle club. I LOVE mine – it spoils you. It’s almost too easy to get books and to switch between books you’re reading. I would be lost now without mine.
I started hinting about a Kindle about a year ago. No one has responded yet. I’m now updating that request to an IPad. Maybe next Christmas!
As for P&P, I really need to read the book. LOVED the movie!
Have fun with your new toy. I’m going to have to get me one of those some day too.
Glad to hear your enjoying your Kindle. I have tried and tried to read Jane Austin but the woman bores me to tears. I have this book on my Nook (it came free) but lol doubt I will try wading into it anytime soon. I have a couple of free ebooks (advanced readers copies) you might want to try. They will work on the Kindle . Let me know.
how do you like the kindle? I am debating getting one…but i love my books and the pages and the smell…
That is one of my favorite books. Didn’t know it was free on my kindle?
I think what you are missing is that there was friction between the two characters. She learned a few things about him that his pride did not allow her to see before. He was more generous than he appeared. Guess you have to be a girl to see that.
It’s a good movie, too. Sweetie would probably love to watch it with you. Two versions, both are good.
