Man of La Mancha

logan after recital

We are very proud of our son Logan. He gave a great performance at his recital yesterday (which I didn’t record due to depleted batteries, ugh) at Brook Fine Arts here in Tulsa. He sand “Man of La Mancha” from the musical.  All of the kids on the varied program did great also. Afterward they announced a Studio Award for not necessarily the best performer but one who has improved a lot, works hard during his lessons, has a great attitude, is always on time, and always ready. That award went to Logan. We are very proud of him.

Of course behind every great performer is a great teacher, mother and grandmother. Heather is the one who helps him practice and provides encouragement and keeps him going. Logan’s grandmother, Nana, is the one who shows him how to sell the performance and watches the great musicals with him. Kudo’s to them both. What a support team.

His voice teacher Katie at Brook is very patient and supportive. We are very greatful to her for coaxing the efforts out of Logan.

Logan is growing up fast and dealing with lots of change. Later on this summer he is participating in the Oklahoma Youth Leadership forum and Falls Creek Summer Camp. Next Fall he has been accepted at Metro Christian Academy. He is really stepping up and out into this world and I couldn’t be prouder of him.

Versatile Bloggers

I’m so happy my friend Baloney has given me an award!!!

Isn’t it pretty I love it. But in typical Baloney fashion she has given me some homework. (That’s the former school teacher in her you see)  I have to reveal seven truths about myself and then give the award to seven other bloggers. So lets get to it.

The Seven Truths

I hate science. Just cannot stand it all. You see science is all about facts, data, analysis, and theories, and you actually have to show your data and analysis. Worst of all before you can publish your data and theories you have to let other scientist review your work. How dreadful! Its just a lot easier to have Glenn Beck tell me what to think about stuff like Global Warming.

And besides what matters is my feelings about things, just ask Oprah, she’s on at 4!

I hate Sports – I really do. What’s the point? Point me to a good quilting show instead.

20100522_8

These girls tried to tell me about something called the Dallas Cowboys.

Cowboy's Cheerleaders

They don’t look like boys to me. What do you think?

For some reason I ended up being the team blogger. I even have my own locker.

20100607_114

I hate going out into the woods. There is this thing called Geocaching that is just so lame. Why on earth?

20090919_30

20100427_6

Gardens, They are just so dreadful.

DSCF1381

The allergies kick in just thinking about it.

I hate art. I just don’t understand why people like it. I mean anybody can paint. Just go to Hobby Lobby and get one of those paint by number kits. Same thing.

DSCF1368

I hate eating at nice places

DSCF1366

I mean, what’s the point? Meat and potatoes for me, preferably fried. Yep that’s me.

I hate running!!

041

Hey look there is SuperPizzaBoy in a race

023

And look there is Baloney, and my wife Sweetie, Go Ladies Go!!

016

I especially hate trail running, you never see anything good!

And many runs have this horrid practice of serving beer to the runners.

20091031_53

I just cannot believe anybody would drink beer at 9 in the morning after running several miles. Runners are just awful, don’t you think?

And I”ll add an eighth truth. I do this with trepidation. Baloney is a stickler for the rules and she is liable to jerk that award away from me and then where would I be? Awardless and alone that’s where. But I’m going to risk it.

My eight truth is that I am very positive person.

Now, I get to inflict this on seven unsuspecting bloggers. Lets see, who has made me mad lately? Hmmm.

The Real Housewives of Oklahoma – They are awesome. Check it out. Baloney is one of them (Mrs. Priss is her handle there.) – So right back atcha Baloney!

Bill at Tulsa Gentleman – Bill is a very creative blogger and a great photographer and genuine all around nice guy. He, SuperPizzaBoy and I are trying to get a disk golf game going soon.

Dawn’s Diversions – Dawn is another RHOK star. She has turned into media superstar lately. She is a champion commenter.

My Sister Ellen of News of the “Pole Yard” I know that its nepotism but she really has a nice blog describing the life of her and her family out on the Colorado prairie.

An Oklahoma Granny – Check Granny out, she blogs about her life. She is a good and interesting writer and a great commenter.

Ken at …Miles to go before I sleep – He is a running blogger with a great sense of humor and big heart. Ken is an ultra runner which means distances over a marathon. He has run 100 mile races!! A genuine nice guy.

Sarah at Brit Gal in the USA. Describing the adventures of a Brit married to “Hubster” in northwest Oklahoma. She is a US citizen now!! Great photographer, great sense of humor. And she and I have a mutual acquaintance it turns out.

There are just so many bloggers to choose from.

You Know What Makes Me Real Happy?

My blogging friend Dawn of Dawn’s Diversions gave me a Happiness Blogging Award. Dawn is a very sweet lady with a nice family. I have learned a lot about blogging. She is a great commenter. You know us bloggers love comments, right? (that’s a hint folks).

Anyway, I am supposed to list ten things I love and then pass the award on to ten other bloggers.

Here is a list of my loves.

  • Sweetie – We have been married for twenty years and she has always been there for me.She is a great wife and mother to our child and my best friend, and she reads my blog.
  • SuperPizzaBoy – I couldn’t ask for a better son. I am so proud of him. He is a good kid and humors his Dad when I take him geocaching.
  • My Family – My Sister Ellen (another faithful reader), her husband Irv, there three children Dana, Mary, and Jillian and Mary’s son Shiloh, my Brother Bob, my Father, and my departed Mother. I couldn’t ask for a  better family.
  • My Extended Family – through some recent family reunion’s in Idaho I’ve become reacquainted  with my Cousin Merri Ann and her family and we have been able to stay in touch through Facebook, (and Merri Ann reads my blog also, starting to get a connection).
  • My Friends – as you get older you realize that Family and Friends are pretty much the important things in life.
  • My Blogging Friends – I have come to know many people through this blog. Some I have managed to meet in person. There is a good side to the internet folks and blogging is it.

and now for the other things

  • Geocaching – I am crazy about it. Its a wonder my family puts up with me.
  • Dallas Cowboys – This year they won a playoff game for the first time since 1996, that was before my son was born. I was so happy.
  • Baseball- When I lived in Houston I had mini-season tickets (about one game a week) to the Astros. I would rather go watch a baseball game live than anything else, including geocaching.
  • Coffee – Life without coffee would not be a life worth living. It has to be good though.
  • Fat Tire Beer – When am I going to be able to get it in Oklahoma?

l know, I know I went over 11, so report me to the blogging police.

So here are the blogs I’m passing this award on to, in no particular order

Janie and Steve’s Utah Trails
Jill of all Trades
My Muskoka
Tulsa Gentleman
Irritated Tulsan
Brit’ Gal in the USA
…miles to go before I sleep…
Bounded Rationality
Sylvia from over the hill
JenX67

Check these blogs out, I do almost every day. In fact I check almost all the blogs on my blog roll every day but I make it a point to never miss the above. There are some others but Dawn listed them on her post.

Best Blog Award

Oklahoma’s Hottest Mommyblogger, Baloney of “That’s Baloney” awarded me a “Best Blogger” award. I am so proud of it. Usually what she gives me is a hard time. She makes fun of me all the time about how ugly I look, how old I am, and how slow I run. She has also done some pretty ugly things to me on photoshop. I haven’t done a thing to her to deserve any of this ill treatment. She is also sweet, considerate, and supportive when she wants to be.

It’s my privilige now to pass the award on to 15 other blogs. I picked blogs to whom I haven’t yet awarded anything. If you want to pass it on, do the same thing.
My awardees are, in the order that they are on my blogroll when I started typing this are:
1. Jane & Steve’s Utah Travels – They are my hero’s on the horseback and hiking adventures all over northeast Utah and beyond. I love their dog Daisy.
2. Bounded Rationality – Jeff is an interesting guy and has unique perspectives on things.
3. My Muskoka – Jenn Jilks has a great blog about “cottaging” on Lake Muskoka in Canada. Plus she makes great comments.
4. Barnyards and Barnacles – I love this blog. I never know what they are going to have next.
5. …miles to go before I sleep – Kind of an adventure blog. Trail Zombie does trail runs. I did one. I had a lot of fun. Stunk up my shoes though.
6. Tulsa Gentleman – a nice evenly paced blog about Bill’s life in Tulsa. He also has Historic Tulsa which I absolutely love. He is a very good commenter also.
7. Tulsa Gal’s Blog – another great Tulsa history blog.
8. Mainstream Baptist – Bruce Prescott calls’em like he sees’em.
9. Jerusalem Daily Photo – Dina shows and explains the complicated culture and history of Jerusalem.
10. An English Girl Rambles – Great photographs of Denise’s travels and hikes.
11. Martha’s Musing – Martha Z is one active Grandmother.
12. Writing in Faith – Sandy  is a very talented teacher, photographer, and poet. She is also a very insightful and supportive commenter.
13. Turquoise Diaries – Where in the world is she going next?
14. Family and Friends Blog – P M Prescott calls’em like he sees’em also.
15. Geogypsy – Adventures of a seasonal Park Ranger. Now at the Grand Canyon. Where is she going next?

Blogs I’d fight Zombie Chickens to Read

Kathy, of the Oklahoma Booklady was kind enough to award me the Zombie Chicken Award. Isn’t she nice. Yes, she is, I can say that even though I’ve never met her plus her blog is tops. She blogs about books and reading but she is also a great photographer and joins in several interesting meme’s. She has always got something new cooking so hers is a never miss blog

The Zombie Chicken award is described thus:

The blogger who receives this award believes in the Tao of the zombie chicken – excellence, grace and persistence in all situations, even in the midst of a zombie apocalypse. These amazing bloggers regularly produce content so remarkable that their readers would brave a raving pack of zombie chickens just to be able to read their inspiring words. As a recipient of this world-renowned award, you now have the task of passing it on to at least 5 other worthy bloggers. Do not risk the wrath of the zombie chickens by choosing unwisely or not choosing at all…”

So I thought long and hard and I’m passing this award on to: (drum roll please)

Michelle of The Froggy Bottom Blog. Michelle blogs about all sorts of different things mostly involving her family. She is also a very talented photographer who take great canded photographs. She is also very encouraging to others and makes lots and lots and lots of comments.

Dawn of Dawn’s Diversion. Dawn has a heart as big as Oklahoma and it shows on her blog. She is a community builder extraordinaire including bringing virtual friends together live and in person through her “hoedowns” (her terminology). She has a great sense of humor and over communicates. She has a blog, she is on facebook, she sends emails. She is a great photographer, especially of children. She is very encouraging and she is a great commenter. I learned from her and I almost always comment on a blog. She has a great sense of humor and can take a joke as well as dish it out.

Sarah of Brit Gal’ in the USA. Sarah is a British Expatriate living in northwest Oklahoma with “Hubster.” She is a talented writer and has a lot to say about life in Oklahoma, her former life in England, and differences between the US and Great Britain. She is a great photographer and very very honest. She is also very encouraging and offers up ideas. She is the one who suggested I try the Skywatch Friday and My World Tuesday memes. Also, she and hubster are a geocaching team and have already hid three. She make lots of comments.

Georgie of Decisionally Challenged. Georgie has the wildest blog on my roll. I never know what she is going to do and don’t hardly ever miss a post. When I first started reading her, it was like, my word, where does she get this stuff? She is very creative and very funny. She also puts herself out there. She is encouraging and makes lots and lots of comments. She was out recently with a bad back back and I missed her terribly. Don’t miss her confessional booth. I am not talking so much about the comments themeselves from some awfully hurting people who need our prayers but Georgies compassion for people.

Baloney of That’s Baloney. Baloney was the first blog I ever read and days she doesn’t post are missing something. If good ole Al Gore had not invented the internet for us and blogging was done by writing on used toilet paper hanging from trees I’d be looking for Baloney’s tree to see what she was posting that day. She is very out there with herself and has a great sense of humor. She can pierce the most inflated and resistant egos with a well placed punctuation mark. She has an eye for bad pictures. She is a talented writer who can express great emotion and feeling. She makes lots and lots of comments also. (Detecting a common thread here?) Advice if you ever run into Baloney. She always has her camera and no picture is taboo so maintain proper decorum at all times.

Jill of Jill of all Trades. I like Jill’s blog because she puts her life out there. She doesn’t crack jokes or do exposes, she just writes about her life. I find her posts compelling, fresh, and honest. I don’t ever miss them and they are always interesting whether she is talking about jury duty, remodeling, a few days in the cabin, or whatever.

Ok Awardees, you have your homework now.

Honest Scrap Award

I am very derelict in acknowledging receipt of an award. Way back in January Dawn of Dawn’s Diversions awarded me the “Honest Scrap” Award. I’m very proud of it. I apologize to her for not acknowledging it sooner.

The award has requirements for the awardee. First I need to say seven things about myself and then I need to award it to other blogs.

So here goes.

1. I like beer. Give me a porter, india pale ale, wheat beer, stout, nut brown ale. I like them all. I especially like brew pub beers. One of the highlights of my life is two weeks I spent in Great Britain years ago. I loved the pubs and two, three, or four pints of bitters.

2. I love coffee. Starbucks brew is OK. My favorite coffee joints here in Tulsa are Double Shot Coffee on Boston near 21st street and Topeca downtown in the old Mayo Hotel building. At these places I’ll get an Americano at those places. There are other places in town that I haven’t tried. Let me know about them!

3. Guess what, you will never guess. I love geocaching. I manage to work a cache in no matter what I do. Check out the very bottom of my blog page for some very detailed statistics. Its not about the numbers though. No not at all. I don’t really hardly pay any attention to them at all, really.

4. I am a nerd. At one time in my life I was headed toward hard core nerddom. I worked on a research project in college on rockets. I presented a paper at the Air Force Academy on a study of optimum time delay between staging for multistage rockets.

5. Sweetie and I fight over her Southern Living magazine. I think she hides it from me until she gets to read it. It is so cozy and comfortable I cannot hardly stand it.

6. I love being outside. I have to be outside for at least a little bit every day or things do not go well for me at all. It grounds me.

7. My guilty pleasure is zoning out. I zone out while running. Its like a meditation or a prayer to me and goes really fast. I can zone out in almost any situation. I had a root canal years ago. I zoned out almost the whole time. I mean I was aware of the whole thing but it was in one room and I was in another room. My dentist still tells me on occasion that he had never seen anybody so relaxed during the procedure.

Now, where does it go from here. Here are the people I’m awarding this to:

Baloney of That’s Baloney – Baloney has the ability to make a flat tire entertaining. Takes very entertaining, and sometimes compromising, pictures.

Kathy of Oklahoma Book Lady – Kathy can write about all sorts of stuff besides books. She has a very good eye at photography.

Michelle of the Froggy Bottom Blog – Wide ranging blog on her family. Very good at photography.
