We set some records for snow in Oklahoma the last few days and it has been pretty darn cold, minus 11F this morning here in Tulsa according to Accuweather. The South Pole was minus 23F. What’s up with that?
So to help out our feathered friends we’ve make extra sure that our bird feeders are well stocked.
Here’s a cardinal collage. I’m overflowing flickr.com with cardinal photos.
We had a pair of doves show up and waddle right into the middle of a feeder that we put on the ground. That didn’t go over well with the other birds.
The only guy that could get the doves to move is the meadowlark. He will park himself in the feeder for literally hours.
We had somebody new show up. It was kind of shy and I haven’t figured out what it is yet. It is a house finch according to a commenter.
This guy showed up also. I think it is a mockingbird?
A couple of bluejays show up from time to time but don’t say long.
Oh, and yes, these guys show up. Sweetie tells me that they are fox squirrels.
They are real hogs. We let them eat for a while then let our dogs out to chase them off. They show back up in a couple of hours. We know they need to eat, they just need to share.
Tonight we had a rabbit in our front yard.
Take my word for it that it is a rabbit. I had to jack up the contrast and increase the exposure.
Have you had extreme weather lately. How are the wildlife in your area doing?
Hey, the Great Backyard Bird Count is February 18-21. It only takes 15 minutes. It is only a 15 minute commitment, it is free, it is easy, and it is FUN!! The Yogi’s did it last year and we’ll do it again this year. Check out the link. Lots of good info there.
Please check out Camera Critters
Those are some excellent shots of the birds and you have quite a variety there! It has been colder than normal for us this year but the birds in my backyard seem to be fine. The squirrels here are pigs too and I could never put a feeder on the ground because they would destroy it.
Love your cardinal collage. Cardinals are beautiful against a snowy background! That unidentified bird is a mockingbird, right? The official state bird of Arkansas. 🙂 And the squirrels, always a favorite of mine. Thanks for sharing!
Extraordinary shots! Haven’t seen many birds out and about yet…but did spot two rabbits in my own backyard last night!
I can’t believe the amount of snow and your temps!! Amazing! But I do love all your shots for the day! What gorgeous birds and you’ve captured them so beautifully! Delightful! Have a good day, stay warm!!

cool man
You cardinal photos are great, along with the rest of of your bird photos. Hope the weather warms for you and melts the snow

You have a bird buffet there in the back yard. The cardinal against the snow is so beautiful (and red is my favorite color). Lucinda believes that is one of her Tulsa relatives there in your front yard.
Love, love the photos!!!
I put food out for my German Shepherd one day and she wanted in before she finished it. I opened the door a few minutes later and there was a HUGE flock of birds (none as beautiful as that cardinal) hanging out on my back step! Scared me half to death! 🙂
I think your mystery bird is a House Finch. They look like a sparrow that has been shot on the head with a blast of red spray paint. You will see all kinds of birds at your feeders when there is a lot of snow. They also appreciate having water. They get thirsty when everything is frozen solid.
Sure is busy at the backyard buffet! Holy smokes. You must serve up some mighty fine seeds.
These are great photos.
I know I have rabbits and they don’t wait until dark to come prune my plants. That cold weather did seem to come to stay in most of the country but that has given California warm dry weather. I feed the birds anyway and there is no way to avoid feeding the rabbits.
Wow! Those are seriously exquisite photos!!
I’m impressed! 🙂
Have a great weekend!
Betty
Wonderful shots – those cardinals are just so vibrant and lovely.
What a delightful guests you have!
Camera Critters, have a great weekend.
Your cold temperatures are rivaling ours. We’re probably more used to it, though. Lots of critters are enjoying the Yogi hospitality. They’re surely thankful to have something to eat above snow level.
Such beautiful guest you have at your feeder. You have photographed them very well.
The winter has once again been extreme where I live (Sweden) so I also feed the birds.
Wonderful shots at your feeder and the bunny, I believe as I can see the ears.
Oh my! You have so many beautiful birds!
fun photos! i surely miss the birds here at this time of year. i want to put out some suet feeders next weekend .. I just hope I don’t encourage any rats to visit.
That one little red bird does look like a house finch, from what I can find on the internet. And yes, that is a young mocking bird in the next photo.
Wonderful photos! I especially love the Cardinals (always make me think of my Grandmother who loved Cardinals) and the Doves. We have a couple of doves who live in our neighborhood and they are so sweet.
We’ve had a lot more snow and ice then normal for us — I’m quite ready for Spring!!
Visiting from the Camera Critters 🙂
