I was poking around the backside of the Tulsa International Airport last week. (You know old retired guys, we like poke around stuff.) These are just a few of the dozens of passenger aircraft that are parked on every spare space at the airport. I talked to a guy in the airline industry yesterday who said airline travel is down 85% from a year ago. Tell you what, I’m not getting on airplane until this pandemic has calmed down quite a bit.
I found this. I thought it was an old fuselage section. I put it on social media asking if anybody knew. One guy said it has been out there for at least twenty years that he knows about. A few people said that it was used for fire training. Another guy said that if was really a fuselage it would not have survived fire training because aluminum would melt. That made a lot of sense to me. He said further that the training fuselages are specially built out of steel.
So whatever it is, I don’t think it has been used for a long time and it might make a great geocache site. Except you know, even though I was not in the security perimeter of the airport I had the heebie geebies, I felt that I was being watched. I hate being stopped by cops or security guards and I would not like to put somebody else in that situation.
I was going to add this to last week’s post. It is the not quite full Strawberry Moon. That’s me, a day late and a dollar short. But here it is.
As many of you know I retired recently. One of the perks of my job was being able to take photos out the windows. So here is a badly done shot, the last photo from my office building. But don’t worry…
I got a drone, so as long as its not too windy and I am not in a drone no fly zone I can pop up and take photos any time I want. So hey, it all worked out for the good.
I’m linking with Skywatch Friday. Come join in the fun!!
Hello,
Neat shot of the planes just parked. I am not comfortable flying just yet, I am not sure when I will feel safe getting on a plane. The seats are so close to each other. Love the moon shot and the view out the office window. Great skywatch! Thanks for hosting. Enjoy the rest of your day, happy weekend ahead.
That round metal is intrigueing – I know nothing about airplane construction so it’s beyone me. Great moon shot!
…we are getting all kinds of offers from American Airlines, no thanks! Thanks for hosting.
Not flying or even going any where at this time. I wish it would get better worldwide, but cannot see it anytime soon. I am not sure if my post is working the new way (I think is the new) or the old way. Rather confusing for an old lady.
Interesting post.
Yes, and with the drone, you don’t have to worry about those pesky window reflections! The fuselage section is really interesting. I would be tempted to walk inside and take some window seat shots!
That gorgeous moon Alan! That is just stunning and hypnotizing! I love it! Plus the perfect distancing of the AA’s ready to fly looks super cool! Happy Skywatch!!!
Not flying, not going more than anywhere an hour or so from where I live (in upstate New York). Perhaps I’m paranoid but with the experience of a family member having survived a 3 week hospitalization with COVID-19 I have more than a healthy respect for it. I loved your moon shot, Yogi. More and more I realize I am going to have to up my photography game. You’ll see why if you visit my Skywatch post tomorrow! Right now I just don’t know how. You would think that during the lockdown I would have figured it out, but no. Well, it’s on the list.
Nice series. With your drone, you will be taking more great photos. Have a good weekend.
Wouldn´t fly either. Now it´s not time. Not yet.
beautiful moon shot
I won’t be flying any time soon either. Fantastic moon shot!
Awesome moon shot, a lot better than the ones I took.
Have a great weekend.
the drone will make up for that office view. 🙂
gorgeous moon shot.
I guess I have been away for a while and did not know that you had retired. Congratulations!!! Think it’s great that you have a drone. We’ve been thinking of getting one lately. Nice shots of everything, particularly the moon because I cannot for the life of me get a good shot of the moon. I need to take some lessons. Happy Retirement Yogi!
Agreed. That drone will make up for that office view for sure.
Alan – I got on a plane a week ago to come to Ohio and visit my Mom (and my kids). It was not as bad as I thought, but I guess I should wait until 14 days after I return to Montana to say for sure! Hey, poking around it what “old” retired folks are supposed to do! Enjoy your weekend.
Don’t fly that drone around the airport! Security will get you for sure.
our airplanes are only doing domestic flights, all of the overseas ones are grounded and the borders are closed until the rest of the world calms down.
My blue skies here are almost crystal clear. Every now and then I will see a trail or two, but nothing like before March. I think I live right below a major traffic line , or at least it always seemed that way. I hope you are enjoying retirement!
I didn’t think that aluminum rusted. Like your moon shot. Retired and droning. 😉
