Old School Bagel Cafe

Old School Bagel Sign

Hey long term Tulsans. Remember New York Bagel? They made very good fresh bagels and the lines would be out the door. Things were great. But then they went public, expanded too fast, opened too many stores, stopped making them fresh. Quality declined, they cut back on the variety. Well the lines got shorter, but so what? Then Panera bread came to town and that was it!

Well the guys who had New York Bagel have now stated Old School Bagel Cafe. The bagels are back. Hopefully then can stay in business because the bagels are great.

Nothing better than a bagel! More snow on the way, Yogi! I shovelled the deck in anticipation, before my breakfast bagel!!!! The cats were grateful.

Yogi, I dig the everything bagel just like Georgie described with all the junk on it! mmm….

“long term Tulsans” sounds so terminal…. 😉

Yummy! I’m not a long time Tulsan and NYBagel was just on it’s way out of town when I was my way into town. But I do remember having one of their yummy bagels. So glad they are back and just a quick little walk from my home, too!! Bonus!

@Jenn Jilks – Jenn I asked you very nicely to keep that snow in Canada. We don’t need it.

@Sunny – I’m with you. I love the pumpernickel with plain low fat cream cheese. I’m enjoying while they have it.

@Georgie – 71st and Yale was the one I went to also. The everything bagel was great for lunch but a little strong for breakfast.

@Jeff Shaw – Long term Tulsan does sound terminal doesn’t it. We moved here in 1992 form OKC and hated it for a couple years and then loved it. We moved back to OKC in 2000 for about 8 months and although I love OKC I pined for Tulsa and was glad we could move back. We have lots of problems I know but I love it here.

@Alyssa – Its a drive for us from South Tulsa but I stop there once or twice a week after going to the gym in the morning.

You are the second person to recommend this place and it is just down the street from where we live. I hereby resolve to give the bagels a try tomorrow. I worked with the guy who started The Baglery back on Lewis back in the early 1980’s. I got hooked on them. The Walmart bagels just aren’t the same.

I hope they keep it simple and keep it going.

This post reminds me how much I love a plain-English-sized cup of black coffee and a bagel with ordinary old cream cheese. I hate when breakfast puts on airs.

    May they thrive!

Real bagels? I’m jealous. I have to go over 10 miles for a bagel and since they are often out of plain bagels, Hubby’s favorite, I don’t make a special trip. (Imagine a bagel shop being out of plain bagels, and don’t call them water bagels because they don’t know what that is!)
