SuperPizzaBoy and I just finished Book Two of the Children of the Lamp Series “The Blue Djinn of Babylon.”
Its a great story about two preteen djinn John and Philppa Gaunt (genies to you “mundanes” out there) who this time travel the world looking for a lost a lost of book of djinn secrets, the “Solomon Grimoire.” John and Philippa have all sorts of adventures and misadventures. We learn all about djinns in the meantime.
I give this book 3 stars out of 4. A kids book that is not painful to read. SPB loved it. I don’t know what we are going to read next, anybody got any ideas out there?
Anna Myers has written some good historical fiction about Oklahoma for middle grade students. Don’t know about the level of adventure, but a very good picture of where Oklahomans come from.
I have a whole series (still) to give you.
Sounds like a good series. I will see if my daughter knows it. She is always looking for something.
Love the book cover. The only YA books I have read are Harry Potter, Lemony Snicket, and The Twilight Series.
Great cover. We read to our kids every evening, and I always thought it was the best bonding time of the day.
Looks like a real good read. I’m taking note of this one and also any other recommendations.
It’s awesome that you read with your son with mutual enjoyment in mind. As a teacher, I cant’ stress it enough. It is an almost magical formula for raising a reader.
How about The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe series? Madeline L’Engle. My girls LOVED that series. They read the books over and over. There are also some really cool books by Jean Craighead George that tell a mystery yarn while teaching about different ecosystems and the creatures that inhabit them. One was called The Missing Gator of Limbo something or other. My older girl loved these. Ecological mysteries, I think they’re called.
