I have real big problems with the premise of the movie. Will Smith’s character, Ben Thomas caused an accident that killed seven people including his wife. So presumably to make up for that he arranges to commit suicide and donate his organs to seven people. These seven people though have to be good people and Ben Thomas is the sole determiner of what a good person is.
In doesn’t make a whole lot of sense. What about the context? The seven people who died surely had loved ones, relatives, friends, and coworkers who cared for them. Where is their redemption? They don’t get any, they just get one more person killed out of a tragedy. In fact they don’t exist at all as far as this movie is concerned. How is that for compassion? Isn’t there anything that Ben could do for the survivors?
From a Christian perspective I have huge trouble with this movie. How do you go about determining who is good and who is bad? What gives one the right to determine who lives and who dies? I know that on the wings we have Hitler and Mother Teresa. Most of us fall in the middle somewhere. Plus what about Ben Thomas’s soul. He is cutting and running, leaving everybody else to deal with it.
Okay, Okay…not the best “date” movie. I take the blame. Next time, you get to pick the movie. I will even go to a macho guy flick.
I wondered what that movie was about! Now I know I won’t be going to see it!!
Saw I Am Legend the other night. It was different but I liked it.
That’s a shame that the movie wasn’t any good. I was looking forward to seeing it. Oh well I will wait till it comes out on tape and rent it.
Thanks for this review as from the trailers you can’t tell what it’s storyline is! Usually I’d go as a Will fan, but I will take your good advice.
Thank you for the head’s up. The trailers did not tell us at all if it was a movie we wanted to see on not.
Marley and Me….a silly, fun, and sad flick. Bring tissues.
I found this movie quite disturbing. At first view it seems like a good movie, Rosario was very good. Will kept looking sick to his stomach and by the end of the movie we know why. Planning to donate your own organs is one of the many issues raised by technology advancing beyond bio-ethics.
Ick! I see what you mean about a bad movie made good. Or was that visa versa? LOL!
That’s too bad. I love Will Smith.
I’m in the future guys, I can’t stand people trashing a movie without giving it a shot. That goes for some of the commentators above. For the reviewer, decent points, but everything doesn’t have to make sense.
Perhaps it is supposed to not make sense? Perhaps something changed him inside, during the accident, which made him do these things. People do things that make less sense than this every day.
Anyway, try the movie, it is worth a shot.
