During our vacation to Seattle last week one day we visited Rattlesnake Lake about 25 miles west of Seattle and in quest of fresh water we stumbled upon the “Cedar River Watershed Education Center” run by the City of Seattle. You see the local watershed is where Seattle gets most of their water so they want to make sure people understand just how important the area is for providing clean water to Seattle.
We found some water to refill out bottles there and also found the coolest thing, drums that were played by water through some drip valves. It was the coolest thing and I just love serendipity. Unfortunately I didn’t bring my video camera along and didn’t underestand how to make the video function work on my regular camera.

But YouTube saves the day. Lots and lots of people have made videos of the drums. I have embedded one by “MyCinerama.” I found the effect of the drums to be very calming which brought to mind the following verse.
He lets me rest in green meadows; he leads me beside peaceful streams.
Psalm 23:2
(New Living Translation)
That is truly amazing. I started off with agreeing with you that the drumming was calming but I’m afraid I began to find it a little monotonous after a while. However, I wasn’t there in real time so simply switched you off when I’d had enough LOL.
All I’ll say is— I don’t think I’d ever take a swim in Rattlesnake Lake!
Yep I agree think its pretty neat. Have to remember this if Ellen and I ever get up that way again.
Seattle would be the perfect place for rain drums. Surprised I never heard of them when I lived there.
It’s very soothing. Glad you had a good time seeing all these interesting things in Seattle. It’s a city that I love and can’t wait to see again one day.
I’m so glad you had such a good trip to our beautiful city!! The drums are wonderful! I haven’t made it to the lake, so the drums were really delightful for me!
What a wonderful idea! I wouldn’t mind having a rain drum in my backyard.
As we have experienced our wettest year since 1912, perhaps drums should be introduced to our parks and woodlands?
I’m not sure I would want to visit anything called Rattlesnake lake, but it is beautiful. That vegetation is so lush and green. It’s hard to remember what green is after so many years of drought in Colorado. I heard on the news that Seattle hasn’t had any measurable rain since the end of July, but Rattlesnake Lake looks like it’s getting plenty of rain.
The next time we go out we will have to visit Rattlesnake Lake. My son works with seawalls and the seashore each day at his job. Love the drums. Thanks for your visits….I just cannot let the boys get the best of me even if it requires silly antics in cold water. genie
It’s amazing what’s possible. What a place.
No swimming for me either in that lake 🙂
Seen the Isaak concert on PBS? Saw it last night. All stuff from his new CD, Sun Records recording. Worth a watch.
Rain drums!? They are so amazing. I would love to create that music in my garden during our rainy season.
I love it! I need some rain drums. In fact, I need some rain!
Thanks for pairing up today! Just hearing that verse makes me feel a bit calmer. It’s a great one!
how awesome .. we could play those here today and tomorrow .. its raining here .. left over from that blow hard Isaac
