I was headed home from work the other day and I caught the writing below out of the corner of my eye. I was on a one way street and so turned off and went up an alley back to it and took a picture. I got home and saw my big ole fat thumb on the edge of the photo. So I went back the next morning to try again.
It looks to me like an overlapped work judging by the background. The core area of downtown is pretty much devoid of graffiti. Lots of big empty walls and they are just blank. Actually I’m thankful. A little bit of graffiti goes a long ways.
If you look closely though you can spot micro Graffiti. (I just made that name up. Feel free to use it though.) I found the above and the following in the “Blue Dome” District of Tulsa’s downtown, just east of the core downtown area.
This was pasted on paper. I have no idea what it means, do you?
More signs just a few inches tall on a street sign. I like how the colors of the sticker and the sign are similar. You can bet that the writer’s belt and shoes match, and his murse.
Even the standpipes have stickers on them.
Another example of sticker graffiti.
I also found a micro poster on an electrical junction box cover. I’m all excited about all this micro-subversion (another term I invented, please by all means use if you feel led) going on in here in Oklahoma. It is going on right under our noses. Ironically the micro poster and and micro graffiti above are all within about 100 feet of the first geocache that SuperPizzaBoy and I planted a few years ago Tulsa Time which has been found 370 times so far. I hate to admit this but it is a “microcache” ( I didn’t invent that term.) Does that make me part of the microsubversion going on in the Blue Dome District?
Check out Graffiti Wednesday by my friend Jen, she posts about Graffiti quite frequently on Wednesday.
One last thing, from the Broken Arrow, OK “Chalk it Up Festival” this past weekend.
My apologies to Miami Heat Fans. The Oklahoma City Thunder is the only major league professional sports team we have, if you don’t count the University of Oklahoma Football Team that is. I’m a huge Thunder fan, have been for days.
Let me ask you: Have you seen any micro-graffiti where you live? How about micro-subversion? I want to know!
You do find some of the greatest, most unusual, fun shots for whatever meme you plan on posting for! What an eye you have! I see some graffiti from the many homeless people that prowl around this neighborhood these days, but I haven’t seen anything worth taking a shot! Hope your week is off to a good start — it does look like it! Have fun — whatever!
Sylvia
The only micro-graffiti around here is either 100s of years old rock art or maybe a 100 year old carvings on the aspen (actually called dendrogliphs). I’d be Very upset to see the city kind of graffiti on nature. But sometimes I like it on walls and trains. Better than the sticker thing which is like posting someone else’s creativity.
Looks like camp week is going OK.
I live in the suburbs so see little, if any, grafitti. I’m sure there must be loads in Leeds city centre but I don’t bother going there any more.
for days, huh? Love all the micro-graffiti and the stickers .. now of course I am going to have to look for some in my neck of the ‘hood…
You have quite a variety of graffiti here! I haven’t been in downtown areas for awhile to look for graffiti, maxi or mini. As a matter of fact, I find it disgusting that people would be so criminal to deface walls with what they think is a message others want to see. Most of the places I notice graffiti is where it has been painted over on the highway. I have some of that coming soon on my blog. Yep, I’m a graffiti downer kind of person. It’s crime, not art.
Always a fun visit to see what you have in your posts. An interesting array of graffiti. I am happy to say I am back on line now :)))
This, I’m a huge Thunder fan, have been for days. , made me laugh! 🙂
I love this. What a terrific post. Micro Graffiti. Awesome. That one-eyed monster looks like those pom pom creatures that were popular with McDonalds in the 70s. I can’t remember what they called them. Yogi, together, you and I posting about graffiti is beyond subversive. I have not noticed as much micro-graffiti in OKC, but it is interesting how our eyes become trained to see this stuff. Just wild, huh? I wonder if anyone else has made the connection you made between geocaches and graffiti. I keep meaning to google it…Thanks for this post!
Micro-graffiti is interesting. It must be for those just starting out in the graffiti art world.
The cat in my photo was at an antique store on 15th Street, in the Cherry Street District. The capture really doesn’t do justice to how large this feline was. It looked like and albino raccoon.
I enjoy seeing all your “micro” and colossal graffiti pictures. It’s almost like going on a graffiti treasure hunt.
I love the idea of micro-graffiti to cheer a place up!
This was a great post. I enjoy some of the graffiti, as long as it’s not on our wall in front of our office, which has happened a couple of times.
I love sidewalk chalk art. By far the most creative work being done today.
Not much graffiti here in cottage country!
This is fun to see, though. I like art.
You have a wicked sense of humour!
Tulsa has some great graffiti. I think it’s amazing the way the writers get this stuff on the wall. I’d need an eraser if I tried!
