Last night Sweetie and I dropped the kid off at Nana’s and drove downtown to Tulsa’s Performing Arts Center to see the touring Broadway production of Fiddler on the Roof.
John Preece played the lead character, Tevye. He certainly has the beard for the role. He has played Tevye just over 1900 times and is on his tenth touring production. He lives the role, he certainly didn’t call his performance in last night.
This production is wonderful. Preece did a great job as Tevye, the rest of the cast was wonderful and even though the musical is kind of long at almost three hours including intermission it never dragged. It is the complete musical package of story, singing, and dancing. If this production comes to your town check it out. I give it four stars out of five.
I loved the movie but have never seen the live performance. One day. I saw the movie at the theater when I was a kid, 3 times, my folks loved it too. Then I fell in love with Paul Michael Glasser and watched it over and over again. Matchmaker, matchmaker, find me a match, catch me a catch. Sunrise, sunset was sung at all the weddings in the ’70’s. I could go on and on. Have a great weekend.
never heard of Mr Preece but 1900 performances is impressive …
One of my favorite musicals.
One of my favorites, too! I’m just a tad envious!! Hope you and Sweetie and SPB have a great weekend!!
I have the dvd with Topol and I love it. Good to know a live performance is as great as a film.
How exciting. This is one of my favorite musicals.
We’re going Sunday night! EEK! Three hours, the youngest flies in about 9:24, I guess her sister will have to pick her up! LOL
I wish we could have gone to see that! Sounds wonderful!
A great musical.
