First Post on YogisDen.us

R1-08992-0014

Hello there, this is my first post on YogisDen.us. I have been blogging for years as Yogi’s Den on blogger and now I am trying to get all growns up with a wordpress blog on my own domain and contracted host. Wish me luck. It is very different from blogger is my first report. To those of you that came over from blogger, welcome and please bear with me as I try and figure this out. In case you are wondering I moved all my posts and comments over from blogger and am in the process of putting in redirects to send everybody over here who lands on the old site.

And by the way, in case anybody doesn’t know, that young man pictured above is my son Logan. He is very good natured. He has to be to put up with me.

Remember, Oprah is on at Four

The last few days I’ve not felt very good. I don’t know what I have but I expect it is the flu that is going around like wildfire at the office. Or maybe it was the Denver Broncos performance in the Super Bowl. I showed up Monday and got a few things done that needed to be done but I woke up Tuesday and no way I was going to work feeling like I did.

I had a boss years ago who’d tell me, “Hey Alan, don’t forget Oprah is on at 4” and then laugh. I loved Oprah, what a show. I miss her. I have a new favorite though: “Live with Kelly and Michael.” It is like wow, what an unlikely pair but the chemistry between them wonderful to watch. I remember Michael Strahan as an almost unbelievably intense football player and it is otherwordly watching his repartee with Kelly Ripa. It is almost like the finish each other’s sentences. What a way to start the day if you are feeling like crap.

I’ve learned that staying hydrated is a big thing when I’m not feeling well. I’m drinking lots of tea and water.

Something that has got a lot of air time the past couple days is the big debate between Bill Nye, the Science Guy, and a creationist. What a scoop for the creationist. Nobody had ever heard of him beforehand nor his so called museum. He may be ignorant but he is pretty smart. It really peeves me when creationists say that their theories are the “Christian” viewpoint. This Christian sees no contradiction at all between the Bible and science, yes even including evolution. In my view creationists are trying to dictate to God what he can and cannot do.

Well, I’m getting a little cranky so it is time to sign off.

Our World Tuesday – Munzee? What is Munzee?

I felt like getting out and about Sunday and we had already had decided to be sinning heathen pagans instead of going to church so I took off from the house to do a little running and geocaching. It was running along suburban residential streets and major thoroughfares featuring the big block stores and fake food restaurants.

#kohls #geocaching #running

This is what Kohl’s Cache looks like. Not quite the same as Kohl’s Cash.  I’m sure I’m infringing on somebody’s trademark. If they catch me please send me a post card to Guantanamo Bay. I also tried finding a few Munzees.

I found my first # munzee today #tulsa #oklahoma

Munzees are little QR codes put out by Munzee.Com. Its kind of like geocaching in that you use a GPS except when you find the QR code you scan it with your smart phone. For every find you get points. I don’t know what the points get you. You have to have a smart phone equipped with a GPSr as there does not appear to be any way to claim a Munzee without scanning it.

It was kind of fun finding the little Munzee QR’s and scanning them and there seems to be lots of them scattered around shopping areas and fake food restaurants but I don’t think that I’ll go out of my way to find them.

One problem I see is that there is no way to report back to munzee dot com if a QR code has gone missing. With geocaching, people log “did not finds” (aka dnf’s) and that lets the owner of the cache know that there might be a problem. I’ve already come across a missing QR code. I can see where the sticker used to be and it is gone for some reason. So how do I let the owner know that it is gone? There isn’t a way.

Also, it is very commercial and it seems that the whole thing is to get businesses to put out Munzees to lure us unsuspecting consumers into their stores in order for them to flog their merchandise, services, and food to us. I don’t know about you but that doesn’t sound like recreation to me.

Bottom line is that I’ll find Munzees when Sweetie is in Dress Barn and I don’t have anything else to do.

Below is the track of my meandering 5.72 mile route. I found three geocaches and four munzees and had a great time.

Skywatch Friday – The Downside of Daylight Savings Time

ONEOK Plaza Sunrays

Spring is here, the days are longer and it is warming up and all that is a good thing. Along with that comes daylight savings time and that is another good thing except that it is the end of my sunset photographs. I love my job but not enough to stick around another hour or so to take some pictures.

Speaking of that. After eleven years of a great view I am moving into an interior office from my cubicle by the window. I will miss my view but I am kind of a “just tell me where you want me to work” kind of guy.

Skywatch Friday – Scenes from Noon Run

Fall is Oklahoma’s best season. It may be everywhere’s best season.

First Presbyterian Church

If I have time I love to run at noon when the weather is good  from downtown through the adjoining neighborhoods and parks to the Arkansas River and back. Sure beats getting up at 5 to run in the morning or the treadmill.

Boston Avenue Church

I take along my Ipod touch. I love the Hipstamatic Camera App.

Downtown from Centennial Park

It has tons of different “films” and “lenses” to create all sorts of different effects with the photographs.

Midland Valley Trail

Four miles for lunch is a great way to start the afternoon. There is great noon weather running here generally past Thanksgiving.

What do you do like to do at lunch?

Skywatch Friday – Teton Mountains

Grand Teton from Mormon Row

The Mountains of the Grand Teton National Park from Mormon Row. An area where Mormon settlers from Idaho started farms beginning in the late 1800’s. Personally I don’t know how they got any farming done with a view like this all day long.

I bet they didn’t realize that in a hundred years photographers, bison, and National Park Rangers would be stumbling over each other on their farms.

Tulsa Mayfest Time Again

It is Mayfest time in Tulsa again. The annual festival downtown with music, arts and crafts, food, and fun.

Its a nice change for us who work downtown to get a little music in at lunch. There are groups.

IMG_1039

There are solo artists up n the stage with just a guitar.

And then there are others with a voice and recorded music. This young lady is on the same stage where Hanson used to play, for free, before they made it big. I don’t know who this young woman is, but she sang well and I hope that she does well. Tulsa has a great music heritage.

The art and crafts are always an attraction. New this year are a few signs telling people that photography is forbidden in their booth. I overheard some booth owners telling people that it is illegal to take pictures of their stuff without permission. Morons is what I call them. I’m not going to take pictures generally where people don’t want me to take them, but get real folks. You are in a public place. You have no expectation of privacy.

IMG_1033

What do you think Sweetie would do if I brought this home? It doesn’t match my cubicle decor at work. I don’t know what I’d do. My closet is already full of previous decorating idea bad ideas of mine.

IMG_1032

The people watching is the most fun. I love watching people and making up outrageous stories about them. That is why I’m not going to heaven when I die. Or at least one of the reasons.

21_18

People are wonderful. What would the world be like without them?

22_19

The food is another big draw. I have to tell you that it has gone downhill over the years. I generally don’t buy any of the food. This year I succumbed and bought a cup of gumbo. It had minute rice in it. Those of you who know me really well, know that I hate minute rice. I ate it though. Forget the food at Mayfest. That is my advice. Eat at one of the downtown restaurants instead. Cheaper and better. Anytime you can get better food cheaper, go for it. But if you are a state fair food fan, by all means go get the gumbo with the minute rice. To each their own I say.

IMG_1026

They had one of the vehicles from Batman there. Very cool. Except it left downtown at 5 PM. Dumb move I say. I’d of liked SuperPizzaBoy to see it.

Anyway, I love Mayfest.http://tulsamayfest.org/
