Post Thanksgiving Scavenger Hunt Sunday

I’ve skipped a couple of Scavenger hunts but am jumping in on this. I hope that those who celebrate Thanksgiving had a good one. My brother and father came in from Corpus Christi and Idaho Falls respectively and we’ve enjoyed having them. They will be leaving Monday.

Home or Thankful

We have a nice house but I love our patio. Note SuperPizzaBoy on his trampoline.

In the Kitchen

20090425_21

I’m cheating here by having two photos. My mother-in-law’s kitchen is a warm inviting place.

Above is Sweetie with her mother Nana cooking Thanksgiving dinner a few years ago.

Couple

Alan and Heather

Yours truly with Sweetie.

Bubbles

HipstaPrint

I went to the brand spanking new $760 million dollar Devon building in Oklahoma City. Such a glamorous building requires twice man sized ornaments. Those are my bubbles, see.

Trees

IMG_4937

This is the Creek Hanging Tree here in Tulsa. It was actually used back in territorial days. It is said to be haunted at night with the sound of a creaking rope and it is said that there is a spring at the base that never goes dry.

Scavenger Hunt Sunday

Scavenger Hunt Sunday – From Wild to Classic

I’m joining again in Ashley Sisk’s most excellent Scavenger Hunt Sunday

This week’s prompts are:

Wild

IMG_7466

A fat and sassy coyote that I encountered in a Bixby, Oklahoma park early one morning last Spring. Coyote’s are wild but they have adapted to urban environments. They really like to eat dogs and cats. Especially the little ones.

Welcome

Favorite Cache

I’m not too much into cute stuff but I was charmed by this. It seems welcoming to me! I am a geocacher and this was a temporary geocache at an area event last year. Check Geocaching 101 if you don’t know what I’m talking about.

Adventure

53540002

Last year for vacation we went to Gulf Shores, Alabama. A high point of our trip was a kayaking trek on the Bon Secour River. It was major fun.

Vibrant

IMG_2264

We went to see Rod Stewart in concert a few months ago. Talk about a show!! He can still entertain. I love his sportcoat. His show was big, bright, bold, beautiful, and vibrant.

Classic

IMG_1432

How about 1932 Marmon 8-125 Convertible Coupe. to run on down to the local Walmart for some milk? Isn’t it beautiful?

Well that’s it folks. Join in the fun at Scavenger Hunt Sunday.

Scavenger Hunt Sunday

One more time with Ashley Sisk’s Scavenger Hunt Sunday. Every week she gives us five items to find. Supposed to be that week I think but I’m a notorious cheater. So here are the five items and my finds.

1.Orange or PINK in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month

I’m cheating big time on this one. Here in Tulsa I have three examples of this.

IMG_0082

The Tulsa County Sheriff’s Department has a pink vehicle.

IMG_6039

And so does the Tulsa Police Department. This was parked right down the street from where I live.

20101112_120

The Tulsa Fire Department also has a pink firetruck. I have seen our pink ambulance several times but don’t have a photograph of it (yet).

20101029_21

I’m going to cheat some more. Here is me with a couple of pumpkins that I got at a silent auction, one with almost a pink hat!

2.Faceless Portrait (aim for a selfie)

IMG_2963

This was a failed attempt for a family portrait at Mount Rainier in Washington. Does this count? It is very faceless.

3.View from the Top

IMG_2389

Also in Seattle we rode a big huge (not just big, not just huge, but big and huge) Ferris wheel right on the waterfront. Great views!

4.Cozy

IMG_5269

No matter how big my son gets (and he is both taller and heavier than I am, but yes I can still take him) he sleeps hard.

5.Stacked

IMG_3149

In Seattle, they are stacking everybody up over the water now.

Scavenger Hunt Sunday

Sunday Scavenger Hunt

Another Sunday, another edition of what is becoming one of my favorite memes “Scavenger Hunt Sunday.”

So lets get going for my finds for this week.

1.Water Drops or Water Flowing

Philbrook Water Drops

We are members of Tulsa’s Philbrook Museum. I have been there lots of times and every time I go I see something new. There is lots of water features in the gardens of the museum including fountains. I became interested in the splashing drops of one of the fountains the last time I was there. There is something about water that soothes the soul.

2.Faithfulness

An Angel of Adoration

I also paid some attention to this Terra Cotta angel. It is Italian and is almost 500 years old. It is not known where it was originally installed but it is believed that that it and its twin flanked an altar at a church.

(Philbrook Museum, probably from Santi Buglioni, 1520)

3.Then and Now

IMG_0672

Back in April I joined my brother, sister, and father in Payson, Arizona where we used to live back in the late 50’s and early 60’s. We lived in this house. It was owned by the US Forest Service and was an exact twin of the house we lived in previously in Coyote, New Mexico. It was a shock to see it still standing and still in use, but as an office not a house.

4.Fingertips

53360022

Hey we live in Tulsa, the Praying Hands have the most famous fingers in town. I like this shot because it looks like the hand is pressing its fingers against a mirror.

5.One Item from the Bucket List: Hay Ride!!

Hayride 9

The Hay Ride is what I picked from the Bucket List. These guys are seniors last year at our son’s high school. At the school’s hay ride last year these guys and some compadres staged an attack on the hay ride that led to many screams and much hilarity. They were kind of enough to let me take their picture.

This year’s version was Friday night. Sorry to say this year’s seniors didn’t scare anybody. Sorry guys, it is hard to scare people who expect to be scared.

Well that’s it for this week’s version. Check out the other participants finds, they are very creative!

Scavenger Hunt Sunday

Scavenger Hunt Sunday

Another edition of Scavenger Hunt Sunday. I love this meme it makes me think. The host lists five items and then you post photographs of the items. I love the open ended nature of it.

1.Shadow

Arkansas River Bridge

I get every other Friday off, my wife and I often ride bicycles if the weather is nice. I take along an old school film camera I wear around my neck. This is the pedestrian bridge across the Arkansas River here in Tulsa. The bike rider is Sweetie!

2.Keys

IMG_0469

Well, I don’t have a single picture of key. Sweetie and I did attend a Black Keys concert earlier this year. Does that count? I hope so.

3.Smile

Zoo Smile

I captured this at the Oklahoma City Zoo.

4.Unedited

IMG_3479

I went to the Oklahoma Sugar Art Show and Grand National Wedding Cake Show last weekend. The above was the winning entry by Vivian Pham of San Jose, California. I say it is unedited because usually I would straighten it. Really and truly the cake was straight up and down. I’d of also done a few things to take the background distractions out. The above is straight out of the camera. I’d never been to a sugar art show before. It blew me away, I’m going back next year. It turns out that the Oklahoma Sugar Art Show is the World Series of Baking. Who Knew?!?!

5.Spice

Marionberry #pancakes egg bacon and habanero sauce #breakfast
I just plain don’t have any “spice” photos. However I made pancakes for the family last Sunday. I made this one special for me. The pancakes are Prepared Pantry Marionberry, I added  bacon, two fried eggs, some apricot syrup and the spice part? Habanero Garlic Hot Sauce spread liberally throughout. Tell you what – I don’t have to worry about anybody else in the family stealing it from me. What can I say? I love the spicy, savory, and sweet all mixed together. There is a burger place here in town that has peanut butter cheeseburgers with habanero peppers. Makes my mouth water just writing about it.

Well that’s about it for this week. Check out the other bloggers and their interpretation of the scavenger hunt items. Their skill and creativity blow me away.

Scavenger Hunt Sunday.

Scavenger Hunt Sunday

My third week participating in Scavenger Hunt Sunday. I love the challenge of the meme. Each week there are five “items” given and the challenge is to find photographs that have the items. It is also interesting looking at the fellow participant’s interpretation. There are some really creative bloggers participating.

Yellow

Getting Ready

IMG_5344

My niece Mary’s son Mr. Beans at my other niece Jillian’s wedding last summer in Colorado Springs. What a fine looking young man he is. I think he was the ring bearer.

Bright

IMG_6501

Teeny Tiny

IMG_7481

I participate in  an obsession a sport called Geocaching where I use a GPS receiver to hunt containers hidden in parks and forests and other places by other geocachers. The classic container is an ammo box. This ammo box was apparently for micro ammo. See Geocaching.com for more information on this sport. Also, sorry for my unkempt fingernail. I’ll make sure its trimmed before I post another similar photograph.

Connections

Cathedral

Connections was really hard for me but you know a wedding is a connection right? (One reason that I love this meme, sometimes I have to think. I’m not used to thinking!!)  I captured this couple in downtown Tulsa at Holy Family Cathedral. The photographer was posing the couple as my wife and I were stopped at stop light on our way to a concert. You can tell that the groom is really proud of his beautiful bride. Right after the picture he looked right at me and gave me the old Generation Y chin nod and I gave him a thumbs up. I have no idea who they are but I wish them well.

Anyway, that is it for me on this weeks Scavenger Hunt.

Scavenger Hunt Sunday

Scavenger Hunt Sunday – Sophomore Edition

Well I didn’t get kicked out from Scavenger Hunt Sunday last week. So I’m trying it again this week.

1) Cracked

Crack in the Sky 1

I’ve posted this photo before. I know that’s cheating but I think it looks like a cracked sky.

2) Fallen

IMG_2855

You know, I’m from Oklahoma, we say fallen for falling all the time. This is Snoqualmie Falls in Washington.

3) Ordinary Color

20091111_63

Ordinary Color, I don’t know of any but I love a Marine Corp Color Guard. Will that work.

4) Bokeh

Tilt Shift Exp 1

I don’t have any bokeh photos. I have this homemade tilt shift experiment. Will it work?

5) Fence

Awesomized

I’m a sucker for a wooden fence. This one is along one of my downtown running routes here in Tulsa.

Scavenger Hunt Sunday

This Week I’m trying out Scavenger Hunt Sunday hosted by Ashley Sisk. It seems like lots of fun. She gives a list of five prompts for the coming week and then participants go out and take pictures during the week portraying the prompts and then post them. I did a total cop out though. None of my pics were taken during the week. So sorry about that!!!

With that, here we go!!

1) Kiss

IMG_2897

During our recent trip to Seattle we went to the Ballard Locks. A wedding had just finished and the photographer was taking followup pics. Bombing wedding photos, especially of strangers, is a hobby of mine. I wish this attractive couple well.

2) Askew

20091018_137

My wife and I love the glass art of Dale Chihuliy. We visited the Missouri Botanical Gardens in Saint Louis a few years ago during Fall Break. I loved this installation.

3) Fragrant

IMG_2356

While in Seattle we visited the Pike Place Market several times. All you hear about are the fish, but we loved the fresh flower arrangements.

4) Simple

IMG_2679

Nothing much simpler than a single rower on a lake. (Lake Union in Seattle)

5) Plant

IMG_3023

We also visited Mount Rainier National Park. Acres and acres (thousands of acres really) of wildflowers. I forget what these are, but they are beautiful.

Well, that is it for this week. I hope Ashley doesn’t kick me out for bending the rules a little bit.
