My World – at the Airport

SuperPizzaBoy and I traveled to Tulsa International Airport to pickup my brother Bob. We had a little time on our hands waiting for his flight and I had a camera so like a good blogger I started taking photographs. The above is a bust of Oklahoma’s beloved Will Rogers with a Santa cap.

We also found this statue. It is named “Morning Mission” and is dedicated to the 16,000 American and Allied young men who received flight training in Tulsa during World War II.

And we found this facsmile of a wellhead at the airport. It looks pretty authentic to me except look at all the missing bolts on the bottom flange. That doesn’t give me a whole lot of confidence.

Above is about one fifth of a mural dedicated to the energy business of Tulsa. I just love it. Those guys are using internal lineup clamps prior to welding a section of pipe plus there is a refinery in the background. I found some free software that stitched the whole mural together. The result was excellent but you would need a 30″ wide screen to make sense of it.

We found the chapel right next to the United Airlines baggage carousel. I don’t think it is used very much. We went in quietly and checked to make sure that nobody was in there before we started taking photographs.

It is really nice with several different areas for prayer and contemplation. They had many different copies of the Bible, the Koran, some Jewish books, and texts from other faiths.

It was decorated very nicely and maintained well. The last signer of the visitor register was two days before son and I were there.

What do you have at your airport? I mean besides airplanes and such as that.

It’s proably been at least 15 years since I have been out to the airport. I have to admit its one of the nicer ones I have seen (not that I have seen very many airports). Love the painting.

It has been a long time since I’ve been in an airport. I am surprised that they would have a chapel – I think it’s a good idea – just surprised.

Most airports of any size have chapels. I am ashamed to say that as many times as I have been to the Tulsa airport I have never checked out the chapel. Nor was I aware that the morning mission guy was a memorial to WW2 student pilots. Extra good post today. You get an A+.

Great post for the day, as always! I haven’t had to spend any lengthy time in an airport in a number of years and usually all I wanted to do was get on my plane! Fun to get to take a leisurely stroll with you and SPB! Hope your new year is off to a great start! Enjoy!

I spend a lot of time in airports. That’s what happens when you marry someone from Michigan who likes to go home every 4-5 months.

I’m still waiting on missing luggage to come in from our flight Saturday. I have no makeup, no comb or brush and I the hubby and I are sharing a toothbrush. How gross is that? I need to make a run to the store since we have ZERO groceries in the house after being gone for 2 weeks but do I really want to scare people by leaving the house looking like something out of a freak show?

Thanks for the neat tour of Tulsa Airport. All the pictures were great. Sorry to hear Sweetie took a tumble a while back, and hope she didn’t hurt herself too badly, especially as she was on holiday.

I know I have a warped sense of humor sometimes but I couldn’t help the first thought I had about the chapel being near the baggage pickup. Maybe for those who are praying their baggage makes it.

It’s been a while since I flew. There should have been a chapel on the plane ’cause there was a lot of praying going on! Holy Moly can you say TURBULENCE!!
The only things that take off and lands around here are Canada Geese – haha! The nearest large airport is about 60 miles away.
    Great pictures…by the way 🙂
