Skywatch Friday – an Epidemic of Walking

The family is together all the time during this pandemic. I am one of the lucky ones who is working from home. Logan, our son, is home from school and continuing his classes online. (Poor kid, one of his history teachers loves to talk, and not constrained by class time he has talked on his subject for over two hours!!!, Nobody is there to tell him that it is time to go.) Heather is an exercise instructor, and the gyms she works at are closed. So we do lots of walking and our dog is loving it.

One of our favorite places to go is Lafortune Park. It has a nice, paved three mile track that wraps around two golf courses, baseball diamonds, playgrounds, and a library. Their is a sculpture garden behind the library that I think has to be one of the best kept secrets in town. Their is Peter Rabbit above.

And Mother Goose, with a gosling on her back. There is Logan checking out Peter Rabbit.

I turn 90 degrees and this is the view. Lafortune Park is nicely landscaped.

Lafortune Sycamore trees

And continuing around the park, here is a tree on the golf course. The golf course is shut down but they are still mowing it and maintaining it. Personally I think that they could open it with modified rules. Maybe, only one person per cart unless you have pull cart or something like that. Sorry, I’m diverging, I tend to do that. I don’t play golf any longer but I am worried about keeping the course workers employed, if it can be done safely.

Another golf course scene. As I was taking this a guy said “Dang you take lots of photos.” Huh? It was a friend of mine, who retired in 2018. It was nice to see him. We kept our distance and didn’t shake hands or anything. It was nice to see him. I see all sorts of people now while out walking.

Close to the end of the walk. A combined Redbud and Whitebud tree. They seem to be fused at the trunk.

moon

And to end up, we had a Pink SuperMoon this week. It’s a little hazy because the ranchers north of Tulsa are doing prescribed burns on their pastures so it looks a little hazy. I didn’t care, I just love moons.

So that is it for this week. Everybody stay safe!! Come join the party at Skywatch Friday

What a fantastic park. Next time we go to visit Bruce in Norman maybe we’ll take a side trip to visit this park. My grandkids would love it, but we’ll most likely not be having them along. Posted some pictures of me waling the dog today.

    Hello,

I love the first bunny sculpture and the park. Your sky photos and scenery is beautiful. I love the 5th photo down.
I am glad you are able to get out for a walk. I am thankful to be retired, I do not really have to go anywhere.
Thanks for hosting. Happy Skywatching! Take care and have a great day and weekend ahead.

…gorgeous skies, but I’m NEVER ready for 90F, that too hot for me! Take care and stay safe.

Wow, Yogi ~ love that park ~ Peter Rabbit, Mother Goose ~ yep walking is about all you can do ~ though, my doggie and I had to curtail it (she tore a ligament in right hind leg) so rest and recuperation for her ~ Walked only once without her and just didn’t seem right. Tried to walk her but it was bit much for her and she wanted to do her usual walk (fast) Gratefully, she didn’t need surgery ~ so we will do our best to mend.

Awesome sky shots and what an incredible moon shot! Thanks, my best to you and your family during this difficult time

Some beautiful photos here. I so wish our local and regional parks were still open. It gets pretty boring walking the same sidewalks around the house every day! That’s a pretty moon shot. I wasn’t paying much attention to what the moon was doing, so missed it this time around. Stay healthy!

Looks like a nice place, I like the white tree next to the pink one – quite a contrast there, hope you are all staying safe there.

That looks like a lovely place to walk and be in Nature. I like the sculptures, too. Poor Logan with such a talkative professor! It’s supposed to snow here this weekend. I hope the temp doesn’t drop in Tulsa – you sure have some pretty spring blooms.

The Lafortune Park is beautiful. Nice capture of the Pink Moon. We can’t go walking in public parks. We can only walk in our garden or walk to the nearby shops for essentials. Good opportunity for bonding time. Stay safe.

What a beautiful park. Those sculptures are wonderful and the landscaping is very nicely done.
You are so lucky to have such lovely surroundings that you can walk in. Different story here – we are on 24 hour lockdown and it’s already too hot for me to brave the outdoors. For the first time ever, I’ll be spending the summer in Saudi Arabia instead of fleeing the oppressive heat for the cool weather in Seattle.
    Stay well!

It’s been ages since I visited La Fortune Park. I played Babe Ruth baseball there. The trail was a great addition and originally it was paved with pecan shells to minimize the strain on the legs. I’m sure it was much shorter than three miles back then. I used to work in an office building at the southwest corner of 51st and Yale. Some days I would meet my wife and daughter at the park for lunch even though there was no pandemic to lock us down. Have a blessed Easter and stay safe.

    The park is beautiful.
    Great for long walks.
    The rabbit sculptures are adorable.
I wish you a happy Easter from the bottom of my heart despite the bad times.
    Stay healthy!
    Warm greetings from Germany
