Living Arts of Tulsa has the Day of the Dead Arts Festival every year on November 1 and 2. I had something else going on that day so I missed it that day but the had the ofrenda’s display for a few days afterward so I got a chance to see them but of course missed out on the other festivities.
What I mainly like are the Ofrendas or Altars in memory of departed ones. They might have favorite foods and drinks of the departed.
They also have murals. Most of them were outside so it was hard to get a good photo. This one was inside.
Due to the pandemic, they did not have near as many ofrendas as past years.
Typically there are lots of photographs and bright decorations.
Skulls, marigolds, and religious symbols.
A fellow Dallas Cowboys fan and beer drinker here.
I love the ofrendas and the idea that a couple days of a year you honor your dearly departed.
So if somebody wanted to make an ofrenda for me when I am gone. What would I like on it. My Cowboys hat and a beer would be good. One or more of my cameras, some of my photos. My laptop!! and Iphone. A Chinatown poster. I don’t know. What would you like or do you find the whole idea strange?
I’m linking with Our World Tuesday, come check it out!
I’m also linking with image-in-ing.blogspot.com this week. Check them out as well!!
Hello,
The altars or ofrendas are an interesting way of honoring your departed loved ones. The displays and mural are cool looking. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family. Take care, enjoy your day! Have a great new week!
I don’t know if I find it strange, I know that every culture has their own way of remembering their loved ones. I would probably want my camera, some sea shells, books and photos on display for me.
I think it’s a good way to remember a loved one. I would want lots of photos, sea shells, a tube train and loads of flowers!
Wow. Such vibrant displays! Gorgeous photos, and I hope you will come share them at https://image-in-ing.blogspot.com/2019/08/pass-jelly.html
Amazing festival , Thanks for sharing.
One of my favourite festivals. Love the idea of an ofrenda.
Happy Thanksgiving to your and yours, Alan! This is an interesting concept that is new to me. Definitely, I would like an umbrella and my camera as part of the collection. Sadly, there’s been far too many deaths recently that didn’t have to be and one day all who succumbed will be collectively honored.
Very creative. One looks like Halloween. I probably would like my poems and photographs. I do make altars of natural objects, nests and such.
Wonderful post of a subject that I find fascinating and learned a new word~ ‘ofrendas’ ~
I would like ~ photos of my doggies ~ some family photos, my camera, angels that I have painted ~ and the word grateful included ~
Great photos ~ Ruff! Ruff from Angel ^_^

It seemed a lot stranger before the deadheads made skull decor commonplace.
What a wonderful way of remembering a loved one! Fascinating photos!
I have thought often of what I’d want on mine …ever since the first time we ever learned about DOTD when we happened to be in Mexico on that day. I change my mental list all the time … and I hope I finalize it in time and somebody is willing to make one for me. I think it’s a wonderful tradition!
Happy Thanksgiving!
