The End of the Trail is a monumental sculpture by James Earle Fraser and is the entry hall centerpiece at the fabulous National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City.
The sculpture over the years as come to mean all sorts of things by all sorts of people. The museum has a short video that has one take on it.
I’m linking with Weekend Reflections
Beautiful sculpture and this reflection is certainly worth it! Have a great weekend, Jesh
That’s a great piece of art. Next time I visit brother in Norman we’ll have to check that place out.
Excellent reflection!
I’ve always loved the sculpture though I didn’t know much about it. It’s very poignant given the history of the Native Americans in USA (and Aboriginal people in Canada).
The sculpture speaks volumes.
When I had my ceramic shop open and “End of Trail” was popular piece.
Coffee is on and stay safe
Oh, I thought it was going to be by Frederic Remington. He did a lot of horse and rider sculptures.
Interesting to find out the true meaning behind the sculpture. Happy weekend.
Now that’s a sculpure that gives me something to think about.
It is powerful!
I have seen repros and it always makes me want to cry … I’ll go back to watch the video .
I couldn’t find the video on the museum website–will try again, Yogi. I’ve seen a reproduction of this sculpture in many places and it always takes my breath away as it is so poignant–the struggle to get return home and almost making it.
Lovely images of a spectacular work of art. Well done Yogi.
