The Domestic non-Adventures of a Long Weekend

This past weekend was a long one. I get every other Friday off. First things first though, I got a dental checkup. I snapped this pic and posted on Instagram. Turns out one of my Instagram friends, whom I have never met, goes to the same dentist.

Instagram blows my mind. On Facebook I at least know most of my “friends” at least a little bit. I have 200 or so Instagram friends and know most of them only by their photographs. It blows my mind sometimes this networks we build. Does this modern way of networking blow your mind also.

Afterwards Heather and I met up and went to see “Her” a very clever but disturbing movie about a guy that falls in love with his computer’s operating system. Seriously. Good flick though. But it is not the movie the trailers lead you to believe it is.

Later on we picked the kid up at school and took him to his barber. It is a kids paradise. They can play video games while they wait and watch movies while getting their hair cut. Plus, there the walls and plastered with messages like the above. I can’t figure out though if the messages are reminders for the barber or for his customers, or the customer’s parents.

Saturday morning I took Logan up to All Star Therapy for his weekly ride. The weather was nice enough that we went outside. .

At the #performingartscenter to see #chicago #tulsa #oklahoma #igersok #musicals #broadway

Sunday afternoon we went to see the touring broadway show Chicago at the Performing Arts Center. I don’t know what it was, but I was just “meh” about it. Maybe it was the lady sitting next to me. She chomped on her gum the whole first half of the performance. Plus I could smell the flavoring of the gum. Yuck.

But hey, we are watching the Grammy Awards as I write this. The creativity and dynamism of the performances blow me away. Pink especially, she sang her song “Try” while doing some sort of trapeze act with ropes. It was amazing and I don’t think she was lip synching.

So, how was your weekend?

That’s nice to get a long weekend every other week. Like mini-vacation! And especially nice when you spend it like you did… combination of fun stuff (except for the dentist). When you are retired, like we are, every day is a weekend! (In fact, we try to stay home on the real weekends…everything is less crowded mid-week!)

Since I retired in April, every week-end is a long week-end. In fact life is just one long week-end…kind of. I tried watching the Grammy’s three different times tonight but I just couldn’t get past all of the nonsense.

It’s been a very wet weekend in Yorkshire so I did what I’m enjoying most at the moment and that’s knitting. Having a great grandson has brought this passion back to life. Other than that, I was so glad I’d filled my bird feeders so I didn’t have to fill up their grub (food). I’m very much of the Driller school, I definitely couldn’t have watched the Grammy award ceremony. I’m in the Frank Sinatra/Neil Diamond school of music.

At least I didn’t have to visit the dentist or barber this past weekend. I’d rather ride with Logan. Instead I drove around looking for lions, elephants and such.

It sounds like you had a fun and very active weekend. I think I would have loved seeing Chicago, even with the gum chewer next to me.
My weekend wasn’t quite as active as yours but it was a good one….lots of kid’s basketball.

Thank you so much for offering your thoughts on the movie “Her” because I’ve seen the trailers and want to see it, and I know they often leave out the true essence of a movie, especially with movies like August-Osage County! But I went to see that movie for all the actors as many are my favorites. I still plan on seeing Her, not sure if I’ll do it in the theater, but I will see it!

People should be required to throw their gum away before entering a theatre. Well, that’s what I think. A trip to the dentist is never fun but I suspect you won’t have to go for another six months. ;))

my trouble is getting the folks that follow me there to follow other places. but i guess certain folks enjoy certain places better than others … so i take what i can get. it’s all good. ( :
