Critters Here and There

DSCF0245

I fired up the trailcam again the other day (It had run out of juice and I forgot to set the clock and calendar) and there was a rabbit in it, for hundreds of photos.

That’s the bad thing about trailcams, weeding through all the photos. If you have video it is that much worse. So this rabbit has been having a party in this corner of the backyard.

Captured a squirrel image as well

Son and I went hiking on Turkey Mountain the other day. We found this great blue heron fishing in the Arkansas River. There was heavy brush along the banks so I didn’t get his head very good.

Nearby, this fat robin was looking right at me.

I heard a distinctive “snuffling” sound in the leaves close to the trail and sure enough, an armadillo.

I love armadillos. You can get really close to them.

    Hello Alan,
The photos are great, I enjoyed all the birds, the bunnies and the armadillo is a favorite.
Thank you for linking up and sharing your post. Take care, enjoy your day and the new week ahead. PS, thank you for leaving me a comment.

    Interesting wildlife encounters, Yogi!
Spotting an armadillo on the trail must have been quite a surprise – I’ve never seen one in the flesh.

    Happy Sunday!

    Hello :=)
Fantastic encounters and photos. The Heron image is beautiful, and I like the colour in the ripples in the water. The robin is a lovely bird, and the Armadillo an absolute treat to see, how wonderful to see one in the wild. I have only seen them in the zoo.
    All the best
    Sonjia.

I loved your Great Blue Heron photo. No robin sightings for us yet. Hoping to hear blackbirds in the next two weeks. We are expecting 8 to 12 inches of snow tomorrow and that will make our dark eyed juncos (who winter here and then summer further north) very happy.

    That armadillo is amazing!
I hear you about the critters on the trailcam. They can be silly. Then, again, I’ve had waving leaves triggering mine.
There are two seasons where I don’t bother to reset the trailcam clocks: bug and in the depths of winter! Or, if the sun is too bright, and I didn’t bring my reading glasses!
There is an internal battery that dies. It’s supposed to keep the time until you pop the new batteries in. So silly.
That said, I’ve had 70 videos of Dratted Red Squirrel!
