Lone Mountain in northwest Oklahoma looking with a canola field in the background..
The mesa to the left of the mountain is Gloss Mountains State Park.
Here is a closeup.
Here is a closeup from the State Park .
I elected not to do any geocaching because of this sign, and I was the only one in the park, and I was 40 miles from the nearest hospital.
Maybe next time, if I can get you to go with me.
Wow, I didn’t know that was out there. I feel bad that Oklahoma has been my home since birth and I don’t know half of it. Beautiful…snakes, not so much.
Wow I did not know we also have Canola field here in the US. I thought it’s only on Canada, lol! Anyhow love the photos and for the snakes…nope! ^_^

I love the layers of that first photo. Be observant, Yogi!
Really terrific captures of such a dramatic, beautiful place! I am glad you read the sign!! I suspect that there are better places for geocaching!! Hope you have a great weekend!

So glad you can read and take heed. Don’t you carry a walking stick?
Your quarried mesa looks a bit like sandstone.
Marvellous shots – espeically the first two!
Great tour!! Boom & Gary of the Vermilon River, Canada.
Sign me up, I’ll meet you there!
Yep, you probably don’t want to go noodling for rattlesnake by yourself.
Mighta been a good call. Next time I’m that way, I’ll see what I can find there. I ain’t ‘fraida no snake.
I see OK has its own mini Table Mountain or Ayres Rock – who knew? That field of canola looks like what we would call rape seed for making said oil. Am I hallucinating here?
It’s a wise man who reads (and takes notice of) signs like that.
Very beautiful photos and interesting post for SWF,Yogi!Thank you for sharing and have a nice weekend!
Iconic….. looking at it makes me feel like a pioneer.
Delightful composition! Have a great weekend.
Sunrise, please come and see when you get a chance.
I love your pictures! beautiful.
Pretty photos. I had no idea what a canola field looks like.
Good call to leave the geocaching for another time. If rattlesnakes are prevalent enough to merit that sign, I’d be skittish, too.
Very interesting geology. Too bad, I would have liked to poke around. But like you, the sign would have made me think twice. – Margy
Love those canola fields!
Seems like the only way to get across that field without getting bit is to go by stilts.
Cool shot, the Lone mountain looks lonely. Beautiful skies and landscapes.
What a wonderful landscape! You’ve got one neat corner of the world!
It is good that they have put up such caution notices.
