We just got back from our vacation to Hawaii last weekend. On our last day we ventured to Pearl Harbor and took the Navy launch over to the USS Arizona to pay our respects to not only the Sailors and Marines who died on the ship that day but to all who died for our country and their families.
It is a very somber and sobering experience visiting the Arizona. I’ll never forget it. It was such a pretty day when we visited and it was hard to imagine the death and destruction that came that day.
Linking with Skywatch Friday
Impressive. The oil slick that continues to ‘drain’ from the ship after all these years is what REALLY impressed me. And humbled me too.
I like this artsy shot. The bombing of Pearl Harbour must have been a huge shock to Americans who did not want to be a part of WWII! Very scary suff being attacked on your home soil…or waters. It was only a taste of what was happening in Europe and Asia, but still a horrible experience.
Most skywatch photos are pretty boring to me. This one is not. Like what you have done here.
Wow – what a fabulous image!
That’s a powerful shot for a meaningful place.
Beautiful tribute; perfect picture.
Awesome shot- super!
Great capture, the memorial at Pearl Harbor is a scene I will never forget.
Enjoy your Friday and the weekend ahead!
Terrific post and that was a day that I will never forget even though I was a very young girl at the time. Thank you for sharing.
Very creative and beautiful sky shot with our dear flag juxtaposed against the gorgeous blue!
Happy Weekend to you,

Nice shot! I like the cloud patterns in the sky, hope you enjoyed your holiday 🙂
A very interesting shot.
Beautiful and powerful shot, Alan! Well captured.
Neat perspective.
Looks artistic.
The Pearl Harbor movie helps me to imagine the huge destruction happened that day.
Very nicely captured. Every time I see a program on the History channel about WWII I am reminded that we will never completely understand all that those men and women gave of themselves and the things that they endured to ensure that we enjoy the freedom that we sometimes take for granted. Welcome home.
Amazing picture! I’m sure it’s very overwhelming to visit the Arizona. Hopefully we’ll get there some day.
Really neat image!
love this entry..so patriotic..
