An equestrian statue of Will Rogers on a hill overlooking Claremore, Oklahoma against a cloudy sky makes for a dramatic setting.
Waiting for SuperPizzaBoy’s riding lessons to start I walked outside the arena to see what I could see. I could see a lot and didn’t move more than ten feet from where I started.
A fence made of fence panels. You can make a corral, or gate or just a plain fence one day and then change your mind and rearrange next week. Nothing like fence panel’s flexibility.
A horse trailer. You have to have one, or be good friends with somebody who has one, if you have horses or cows and need to move them from one place to another. I’ve seen people haul hay and lumber in them also. Most of the ones I see parked have a flat tire or two. This one is actually in good shape.

Oil wells, northeast Oklahoma has some of the oldest oil wells in the state. With the emergence of horizontal drilling technology northeast Oklahoma is getting some of the newest wells also in the state. Many of them are completed in the Mississippi Lime formation. ( How come you don’t hear about Mississippi Lime wells in Mississippi?)
So what is ubiquitous where you live?
Dang good WWF or Scrabble letter I think if you ever get stuck with a lot of U’s and I’s is what I say.
SuperPizzaBoy and I took another mini road trip Saturday.
First up was his riding lessons in Ramona, in Phillips 66 and Pioneer Woman territory. After that we drove over to Claremore, Oklahoma.
Home of the Will Rogers Memorial Museum. Will Rogers (1879-1935 was born nearby to a prominent Cherokee Indian Family (the guy at the front desk said, with a twinkle in his eye, that Rogers was a “spoiled rich kid.”) Will Rogers was a big celebrity way back when, he starred in movies, vaudeville, radio and wrote a newspaper column carried nationwide.
He had a down home, good natured, style and he could poke fun at everybody, politicians of both sides, corporate bosses, union bosses, gangsters, generals and nobody would take offense.
The museum has lots of relics, statues, paintings, posters, and other artwork of his life and times but what is the most fun is that they show his various movies, shorts, and radio broadcasts. Listening and watching those make you realize just how special he was. He was down home alright but also a very smart and well versed man.
So if you go, plan on taking some time and sitting in a theater and a scene or two from his movies. Watch a news conference, listen to a radio broadcast.
He was a common sense guy with a sense of humor.
The museum has a children’s area down in the basemenet with a western town, interactive videos, and all sorts of information.
All in all we had a great time
RIP Will Rogers
It’s time for Scavenger Hunt Sunday again, so lets get to it.
Body Part
Sorry Ashley, I don’t take pictures of my body parts and if I did I wouldn’t put them online and I’m not runnng for office so I’m not going to text the pics, that I don’t take, to other people anyway. And, I’m not going to take pics of other people’s body parts because most people don’t want their body parts photographed. So you’ll have to be happy with Frosty’s nose, although, I have to tell you it doesn’t exactly look like a nose either and that is all I’m going to say about that!
Wednesday (take a photo on Wednesday – easy enough)
Well Wednesday is the day I get a kitchen pass to go run after work. Sometimes I sneak in a little geocaching which means that I get a little muddy and dirty. But hey, I wasn’t the one that said Wednesday. Count yourself lucky that you can’t smell me late Wednesday after a five mile run.
Music
Well we went to Guthrie Green in the Brady District Friday evening, see my last post, and listened to some great Jazz music.
Guess What It Is
Sorry, I’m changing this to “Guess How I Did This?” And them I’m going to spoil it for you. I use and love inexpensive film cameras. It drives a few of the people who read my blog nuts, but I do it anyway cuz that’s the way I am. So what I did here was I put my hand up in the sky and blocked the sun from the camera and took a picture. Then without advancing the film I took a picture of a rose bush. So the unexposed area that was my hand when I took a picture of the sun got exposed with the rose bush. I thought it was a pretty cool trick. Of course, several know it alls told me that they could do the same thing better with Photoshop. And I say good for them. I don’t even have photoshop. I don’t even want it. (Although if somebody gave it to me, I’d take it.)
I guess that I could of used this on the “Body Part” section but I’ve already done that and so you’ll just have to be happy with Frosty’s nose, or whatever it is.
Mirror Image
Well, I’m cheating here also, and I don’t feel the least bit sorry about it. Here I took an image of a building downtown and then turned the camera upside down and took another pic of the same subject. I know that it is juvenile but I like the result. It’s like a building floating in air.
“Lean On Me” by Bill Withers
“Sometimes in our lives
We all have pain, we all have sorrow
But if we are wise
We know that there’s always tomorrow”

(SuperPizzaBoy, Sweetie, and Yogi horsing around at Orange Beach earlier this summer.)
“Lean on me when you’re not strong
And I’ll be your friend, I’ll help you carry on
For it won’t be long
‘Til I’m gonna need somebody to lean on”
Growing up “Lean on Me” was one of those songs always in the background and wore very well. I never got tired of it but I never thought much about it either. It was just a great basic song that was part of my life.
Song-ography is a meme sponsored by Kathy at You’ll Shoot Your Eye Out. She has a different song every week that you use as a theme for your post and you link in Sunday Morning. Check it out.

Friday night the Yogi’s decided to get out and do something besides watch the old boob tube.
We went to Brady District just north of downtown Tulsa for the First Friday Art Crawl.
We saw all sorts of art in museums and galleries.
A lot of it was fun. We met a few acquaintances and chatted. It was fun.
I found some reflective stuff and I captured Sweetie and SuperPizzaBoy. I cut off my own son’s head. That is awfull!! That’s okay though, he’s at that age where he’ll grow a new one overnight. You can see me in the pic above if you can figure out where to look.
At the Philbrook Museum’s new Brady District facility I saw my new avatar. It is a work of art and I am sure that I’m violating several laws but this is already my new facebook profile pic. Speaking of facebook, why are we not friends yet? I’m running out of people to unfriend me.
From the Tulsa Zoo outing son and I had last week. Zoos these days spend a lot of time, energy, and money on things such as art work and landscaping making them a total visual and sensory experience.
We vacationed earlier this summer in Orange Beach, Alabama, the Redneck Riviera. A very low key nice place to take a family. Since the beach runs runs roughly east to west the sun sets behind the bay instead of over the Gulf. With all the buildings and such that means you need a little elevation if you are on the beach to see the sunset so this was shot from seventh floor of our condo building.
I don’t know why the sun looks so big just as dips below the horizon but I’ll take it.
The Guthrie Green area of Tulsa just north of downtown is bursting with new activity this year. The Woodie Guthrie Center recently opened. It is dedicated to the life and legacy of Woodie Guthrie. I’ll tell you someething, Oklahoma needs to be reminded of Woodie Guthrie.
