Somebody Say AMEN!! Report on a Pie Auction
SuperPizzaBoy’s school had a trivia night Friday night as a fund raiser. And you know you can’t have a fund raiser without some sort of desert auction, right? (Somebody say amen.)
Sweetie was going to make an apple pie using one of the Pioneer Woman’s recipes. That always gets my attention because Rhee Drummond can flat cook anything, and so can Sweetie. (Somebody say AMEN!!)
Sweetie’s pie got picked for a live auction as opposed to the silent auction. Kari, the bundle of dynamite that was running the desert auction, looked at me and said “Yogi, bid $75.” Anybody out there doubt I did that? (Somebody say AMEN!!) Bidding zoomed up to $95, my last bid.
Then Kari said the fateful words, “The bottom of this pie is still hot!” Did that wake the up?? Did that pull hte wallets out?? Yes it did, (Say AMEN!) You thought the pie was hot, you should have seen the bidding. The look on people’s faces. Visions of HOT APPLE PIE!!! (AMEN!!, I’ll say it myself.)
The WINNER at $165! Actually he just got to pay for it, his wife was the one with the bid.
Know something else? That pie did not make it out of the building. Plates and forks were passed out and that pie was gone in minutes!!
One of the other Dad’s paid Sweetie a compliment, I guess. He told me, “Good thing for you that I’m already married because I would have to kill you. That was the best pie I ever had.”
Somebody say AMEN
Happy Birthday Sweetie!!
Today’s Flowers – Poinsettia
Sweetie wanted to get some poinsettias for some friends and family members so we headed out to A New Leaf in the Tulsa suburb of Broken Arrow. It is a not for profit organization that provides, among other things, job training services for individuals with disabilities, and they had Poinsettias in all sorts of colors and patterns.
There is no such thing as popping in and out of a greenhouse for Sweetie. She is the gardener’s gardener.
I think she wanted one of each. We finally picked a few out. Is there anything better than flowers for Christmas? (Or any other occasion?)
Did you know, according to TLC
Poinsettia’a are not toxic.
They are originally from Mexico.
They were introduced to the United States by Dr. Joel Roberts Poinsett, the first US ambassador to Mexico.
No Fare at the Tulsa State Fair
Last Friday was my day off. As we do every other Friday, we took SuperPizzaBoy to school, slowed down a bit and rolled him out. See Ya Son!! I really need to show a video of his tuck and roll, that boy learns quick. Sweetie and I went to breakfast and then it was off to the Tulsa State Fair.
We rolled first into the arts and crafts building. Lots of good stuff there including lots of Legos, and screaming kids.
How about some duct tape roses? So romantic, and practical!
And some amazing pumpkins. I loved this strawberry pumpkin.
And the world’s ugliest pumpkin. Really people.
And a pheasant pumpkin.
And a Pistol Pete Pumpkin. For you non-Okies Pistol Pete is the mascot for Okahoma State University. That’s where all the Ag Majors and Engineers in Oklahoma go. ( I went to the University of New Mexico, aka Harvard on the Rio Grande or MIT on the Mesa) Unfortunately, the football players in Oklahoma go to the University of Oklahoma . They don’t make pumpkins at OU, they make national championships. That’s why Pistol Pete is frowning. He knows a lost cause when he sees it. Sorry, I usually gig OU pretty hard so I’m giving OSU some Yogi love.
And, look geocaches on display at the State Fair. Wow, we now have the same status as pumpkins, wow?
I love the livestock barns, Sweetie not so much. So I only got a few pics. These young people spend a lot of time working with their animals. I think it’s very cool. The only thing is…… well, don’t spend too much time worrying about the future of this animal. Especially while enjoying a steak.
I like the old farm machinery. They got those old machines all polished up.
The butterfly exhibit is a big hit. You pay a little extra to get in but it is very cool. Just don’t…. yeah just don’t start wondering what happens to the butterflies after the exhibit. And if you do wonder, don’t ask the people who work there what is going to happen to them. Lets just say, I applaud them for telling the truth. I’ll also say that if they have the money to go to Asia and Central America to get these critters then they got enough money to take the little dudes home. Last year the Tulsa Zoo came out and got them. They don’t do that every year.
What about the Fair Food!!! Well what about it, anybody who knows me knows that I love to eat and that I’ve missed very few meals. Fair food though? Yuck. Does the booth below look like it has anything appetizing?
Not for us, we went to a place Sweetie has kept hidden from me. The Ripe Tomato inside The Market in south Tulsa.
Oh yeah, put this up against your corn dogs, turkey legs, deep fried snicker bars and other such stuff.
It was darn good is what I have to say. And I didn’t share, willingly.
Cheap Sunglasses
And the choice is up to you ’cause they come in two classes
22 Years, 23 Miles, 10 Happy Toes, Drinks, Dinner, and a Fire
ieFriday was the 22nd Anniversary for Sweetie and I. Also, it was my day off. So we dropped SuperPizzaBoy off at school and then had breakfast together. Then we went on our annual Anniversary Bike Ride.
We rode a little over 23 miles, not bad huh? I’m not sure we could have got to 24.
As a special treat Sweetie booked his and her pedicures. I had been kidding her before about getting one so she did it.
Above is the “before” picture. Not too bad huh? “Hah!”
Man what a chair, it kneads and vibrates and all sorts of stuff.
Here’s Lee, my nail technician. A very nice lady with a great sense of humor. It took almost an hour. She nipped, tucked, used a cheese grater, gigantic emery boards, and various instruments of torture to get the crap that has been hiding behind the nails for years. I had some strange calluses that seemed to befuddle her but she kept on at it.
Here’s the after. These toes have never been so pretty, or so happy, my feet felt great. I’m scheduling Lee on the afternoon after the Tulsa Run in October. My only regret is that I didn’t get color. I could have got a reddish orange to match the colors on my sandals. What do you think? Or what do you think about a Dallas Cowboys Star? Sweetie now knows that she created a monster. Do you think that I’m going to let her get a pedicure by herself from now on?
So we picked up SPB from school and later dropped him off at Nana’s. The world’s greatest MIL. Then it was downtown for drinks at the elegant Mayo Hotel.
We went to their Penthouse Bar. They have seating out on the roof. It was great.
The drinks. This is a great place for people watching. My favorite sport next to eavesdropping on other’s conversations.
There’s the gas company!
Updating Facebook Status.
Skyping with the kid in Tokyo.
A beautiful sunset from the roof.
Dinner at the Palace Cafe. Our favorite place. They had just reopened after a major remodel so it wasn’t the quiet experience we were hoping for. The food was fabulous though.
And then home, a pinion fire, wine and music on the patio.
Thanks Sweetie, for twenty two years, and looking forward to many more, and a Great Anniversary Day!
Baseball and Fireworks
Friday night the Yogi’s went to see the Tulsa Drillers play at ONEOK Field.
What we didn’t count on was hot hot it was. My car thermometer said 109F when parked at the stadium. I don’t think the official temperature was that high, but it was hot. There was no breeze either. This is Oklahoma, where the wind comes sweeping through the plains darn it.
Even the umps were hot.
The opposing pitcher spotted me eating ice cream. I thought he was going to come up in the stands and take it. He’d of had a fight on his hands.
We smiled in the heat, and perspired. Sweetie perspired, SuperPizzaBoy and I sweated.
Keep him fueled on pizza and ice cream and SPB is ready to go.
Seventh inning stretch so we sang “Take me out to the Ball Game” and of course “Oklahoma.” If you live here you better learn that song. As far as I’m concerned, its the best State Song in the whole country.
And then we had a Fireworks Show!! The Drillers often do that on Friday nights.
Have you been to a baseball game lately?
