Lucky Me! Anniversary Time

Heather Wedding_0001
(Yep, big on the Lucky Me)

Lucky me, twenty four years ago this beautiful woman became my wife.

(We dropped off the kid at Nana’s (the World’s greatest MIL (Can I really next parentheses, who is stopping me)) and had lunch.)

She and I have been through a bunch of ups and downs of all types and she has stood by me the whole time.

(One of the theaters in town has switched over to huge recliners. I’m putting together a movie bag for when we go next time. Jammies, Snuggie, Pillow, I’m going for it.)

We have moved a few times and had a child together and we have lost parents and went through other things, and she has never wavered. We have also shared a lot of great times and had lots of fun.

Alan Heather Dinner
(I know this looks strange but we were seated in a booth and it is hard to to lean across for a good shot in a booth so we took pictures of each other. We love to dress up and play grownups.)

She is my best friend and my confididante and most trusted advisor and my one person accountability group.

With Heather celebrating 24 years together

(The rooftop bar of the Mayo Hotel. Very cool place, very low light.)

I can’t imagine life without her.

Gearing up for annual #anniversary #bikeride

(My Sister Ellen informs me via Facebook that the bikes are bigger than the car. I think she is right.)

So we celebrated over several days, we ate, we watched movies, we went out to dinner at a really nice dressup place and then we went out for a grownup dinner.

(There I am jutting my chin out to minimize my double chins. What really worked best is tightening my chin strap up.)

We always go out for an Anniversary bike ride. Sometimes we do as many miles as we have been married. This time we only got 13.

(Introducing YogiCam!! Here I am about to pass somebody.)

Happy Anniversary Sweetie!

Back to School and Off Work

I’m on a 9-80 schedule at my office. That means that I work 80 hours every two weeks over 9 days and get every other Friday off. I love the schedule. It gives me an extra day off every two weeks, all year long. During the summer when SuperPizzaBoy is not in school it gives us an extra day together. It is really nice though during the school year. Then I get my day off with Sweetie. I mean I love SPB but I like spending time with just me and Sweetie also.

Untitled

So Friday was my first 9-80 day since school started. Sweetie and I didn’t do much. We helped set up the lower school book fair. SPB is in the upper school but hey, we are helpful folks. Actually Sweetie is the helpful one and I was just tagging along.

#fridacation #fromwhereisit #atthemovies with Heather recliners!

Then we went to see Woody Allen’s new movie Blue Jasmine. Oh, it is a great movie but also very raw and heavy. But hey, the theater is in the midst of a renovation and they are installing these deluxe recliners in the auditoriums. I’m taking my snuggie next time! Do you have these where you live? I much recommend them.

Now this is a hot #steaming cup of #coffee

Then we went to lunch at Kosmos on Peoria in Brookside.

#doubleexposure #crepemyrtle #sun

We picked up SPB from school and brought him home. Sweetie is in making dinner and of course I’m in the yard playing with my Ipod Touch Hipstamatic App. It has a multi-exposure setting so I did the old hand in the sky covering the sun trick and then took a picture of our crepe myrtle blossoms.

#doubleexposure #knockout roses

And then a straight double exposure of the same thing at a slightly different angle. Kind of gives it a dreamy look is what I say. You’re no help in getting dinner ready  is what Sweetie says.

At #guthriegreen listening to #tulsasymphonyorchestra #tulsa #oklahoma

Then we packed up some chairs and the kid (along with his DS of course)(if you don’t know what  a DS is, count yourself as being very lucky, take my word for it!) and headed downtown to see the Tulsa Symphony Orchestra play at Guthrie Green. They played a variety of music from waltzes, to broadway tunes, to movie music. It was great. At the end they played some patriotic music and the there were fireworks!! (We love fireworks.)

IMG_6261

And even better it was against the Tulsa skyline.

IMG_6281
I’m so glad I figured out how to use the fireworks mode on my camera.
IMG_6296

I do feel bad though because I broke my rule against reading the manual. Manuals are for Democrats don’t you think, not hard working Republicans. (Mainly because most Republicans can’t read) (But they do have strong opinions) (I’m just joking folks. I heard rumors of a Republican in Massachusetts who can read. I mean if you choose to believe that there is a Republican in Massachusetts then I guess that it is not hard to make the leap that he or she can read.)

After the concert and fireworks we went to Braums for a little ice cream.

And that is that!!

What did you do today?

Home from Camp

We drove down to Texas and fetched SuperPizzaBoy from Camp.

IMG_6067

His counselors all said that he had a good time, behaved himself, and made lots of friends.

DSC_0030

SPB said his fellow campers in his cabin were wild and unruly. Imagine that, high school kids acting up. Never heard of that myself. You?

Untitled

This was the look he rocked most of the week. He was in Texas after all. When I lived in Houston years ago my next door neighbor wore cowboy boots with his shorts all the time.

Picking up from summercamp

Sweetie, being the great “boys mom” that she is waited until SPB was in the car before she kissed him.

I think that he had a great time but was sure glad to get home.

We’ve been traveling a lot this summer. To Texas for a convention, to Alabama for our beach vacation, Idaho for a family reunion, and then camp. I’m ready to stay around home a few days.

Water World Wednesday – Fun on the Water

From our recent trip to Idaho.

IMG_5637

Canoes make great photographic subjects, interesting shapes, bright colors, and nice reflections.

IMG_5648

But really they are meant to be used. This is our family flotilla during our recent outing in Idaho.

IMG_5654

BIL Irv really looks good by himself in the canoe. He really looks like he know what he is doing.

IMG_5659

A little bit later grandson Mr. Beans and my sister Ellen joined them. Notice Irv’s technique of sitting in the back and letting the other two do all the work. That is how we guys do it.

IMG_5652

And there is Sweetie and SuperPizzaBoy. I joined them a little later.

IMG_5653

After a stern warning to SuperPizzaBoy to not overturn the canoe. Nothing tickles his funny bone than topping dad into the deep. I had the good camera with me. We paddled around a bit. Of course nobody else had a camera, so you will have to take my word for it.

IMG_5665

Nothing like fun on the water in Idaho is there?

Shadow Shot Sunday at the Idaho Falls Zoo

They have more than animals at Idaho Falls’ Tautphaus Park Zoo.

IMG_5873

They got some nice shady shadowy places to rest.

IMG_5874

Sweetie and SuperPizzaBoy took advantage of the bench.

IMG_5875

We are back in Tulsa now and we are loading SPB up to drive half a day down to Texas to deliver him to a Summer Camp. We’re going to miss him! But we are going to have fun ourselves. I hope that we remember to go pick him up.

Skywatch Friday – Something Happening in Yellowstone

IMG_5731

We just got back from a family reunion in Island Park, Idaho. Above from left to right is SuperPizzaBoy, sister Ellen, brother Bob, Sweetie, and bil Irv. As you can see the weather was nice where we are but there was a sinister looking cloud over in what I calculate to be Yellowstone Park not too far from where we were.

Our World – Kayaking on Cotton Bayou

On our recent trip to Orange Beach, Alabama we went on a little kayaking expedition on Cotton Bayou.

90400001

We picked out the kayaks, got life vests, paddles and a map and off we went.

90400003

SuperPizzaBoy really took to it and did very well.

90540006

He left the old man in the dust, so to speak.

90540021

Sweetie was looking good also. She always looks good, kayak or not.

90540012

The bayou was busy. We got attached by a pirate boat. The pirates were all yealling “ARGH!!!” but we got away.

90540013

Or maybe they are the ones that got away?

90540011

For some reason Sweetie had the map. How did she get the map. I’m supposed to have the map. That way I can be telling her stuff, not she tellling me stuff. Do you like the thumb action in the photo?

90540015

We pulled up on a deserted island for a lunch of peanut butter sandwhiches.

90540025

And here’s a YogiCam view of the return trip. Tell you what my quads were burning after this trek but we had fun.

Our World Tuesday

Our World – Back from Vacation

We are back from vacation. We went down to Orange Beach, Alabama for a week.

90400016

We hung out on the beach a lot. Some of us tanned, others of us got toasted.

90540015

We went kayaking one day. Nothing like kayaking through a busy bay.

IMG_5504

We saw some dolphins playing. That was quite a thrill.

IMG_5364

We witnessed some great sunsets.

Grouper Pontchartrain # seafood #orangebeach #alabama

At ate some really, really good meals. Really.

DSCN0564

And hung out on the beach. We did a lot of that!

DSCN0512

One of us went geocaching.

We also listened to a lot of music, visited with some other friends of Tulsa, and even made a new friend at the urgent care clinic.

Now that we are back, we just want to know when we can go on our next vacation!

Scavenger Hunt Sunday – from Trios to Volkswagen Microbuses

After a few weeks of doing other things I’m back to Ashley Sisk’s Scavenger Hunt Sunday. Lots and lots of fun, but lots of work also.

Three Trees on San Antonio River II

How about the reflection of three trees on the San Antonio River?

Here in Tulsa we can beat anybody else’s hands with the Praying Hands at Oral Roberts University.

Fence

DSCN0356

I found this old school rock fence at Tulsa’s first park, Owen Park.

Cuddly

IMG_6727

Sweetie and SuperPizzaBoy. I got lots and lots of cuddly pics with those two.

A local drug attorney in Tulsa parks his drug van in a parking lot here in Tulsa.  For good or bad, here in Oklahoma we put drug dealers and many users away for a long time.
