Saturday I made my last long run before the Tulsa Run 15K coming up this next weekend. My training is not going like I thought it would.
Basically I have been running only one day a week because i have a sore back every morning. Weekday mornings is generally the balance of my training where I do my resistance traiining (essential to successful running) and my shorter runs.
My back is killing me in the morning in one particular spot about midway down my left side. And it disappears about 20 minutes after I wake up in the morning. No, the bed is not uncomfortable but the pain is not quite excruciating in the morning.

So I get up and make coffee and read the paper and check up on what is going on online.
So anyway, the Tulsa Run is 15K and I’ve only trained about 11. Things will be okay though. I know how to stretch things out. I first ran the Tulsa Run in 1994 and ran it every year through 2014. Last year I injured a knee and so I walked the 5K but I’m running the 15K again. It will be my 22nd time.
How about you? I bet you know how to stretch things when you have to.

I do admire your commitment to the event. Stay safe, stay hydrated and pay attention to what your body is telling you. Take a few photos and take us along for the race, even though we may slow you down a little. Have a blessed week.
15 K sounds very ambitious to me. Hope the sore back doesn’t bother you during the race.
Our son in law (late 30’s, a mere kid) did a 50 K on the Wasatch front recently. 30 miles and about 4000 feet. I would have been dead, but he did fine and even came in a very respectable 3rd place. He wants to run with us on our rides, but so far the timing hasn’t worked out. We’ll try it one day.
That’s a long run but I have faith in you to finish it even if walking.
15K is a long ways, but I know you can do it! That back pain can be very troublesome so I hope it gets better for you.
Walk if you must – don’t stress your back and knee so you’re injured. Hope you have a nice cool day for it. We just bought a new mattress. It’s made a huge difference in how my back feels in the morning. (We only had our old one for 25 years! I guess we got our money’s worth out of it.)
I do all that stuff you do in the morning. Except for the running and training ;>). Good luck on the race — above all stay healthy.
