Reconciliation Tower by Ed Dwight at the recently dedicated John Hope Franklin Reconciliation Park commemorating the 1921 Tulsa Race Riot.
The tower depicts the story of Blacks in Oklahoma starting in Africa then to slavery in America and then their migration as slaves with their Native American owners on the Trail of Tears to Oklahoma and on through Emancipation, the Land Run of 1889, the Race Riot to the present day.
I’m told the Tower was originally designed to be located inside a building with a spiral staircase winding around it.

Very interesting work of art!
So much detail!
That is such an incredible tower and the detail is indeed amazing! I really would love to see it! Fortunately, I have your photos which are the next best thing to being there! Have a great week!

Such talent, I wonder we with today’s machine power can recreate something so wonderful.
That is a very powerful piece of art.
That is an amazing work. I can see that locating it within a spiral staircase would allow us to see it closer. Standing alone and outside will allow more people to see it. I am ashamed to say that I haven’t gone by there to see it. I will remedy that today. No doubt I will post no doubt I will post something about it but you have given us all a good first look. Thank you Yogi.
I’m very impressed! The detail in this monument is amazing! And the message is powerful!

Very interesting !
Magnificent tower. The carvings are amazing.
Beautiful!
An interesting work. I could wish other injustices in our history would see reconciliation between the parties.
Thanks for the visit!
This is a much better work than the previous work you posted. However, I don’t know that is see true reconciliation in these pieces. I’m afraid that I still see unresolved conflict and anguish in this work.
Amazing photos of this sculpture! Is it part of saying sorry by confessing to the wrongs done over the years?
It must be easier and more interesting to study the history there than to use textbook in the classroom!!!
Thank you for sharing.
This is an interesting way to learn about history. You can see the emotions in the faces.
I never realized there were black slaves on the Trail of Tears. This is a great exhibit. Thanks for taking us on the tour.
I just learned something. That is one powerful work of art. Wow.
