I am not a vegetarian by any means but in the summertime I love fresh produce and fruit. The Tulsa suburb of Bixby used to be known for their truck farms and fresh produce. Will guess what the the flat lands with rich soil that make it suitable for farming is also loved by developers for building thousands of houses in nice subdivisions. So the truck and grass farms are rapidly disappearing but some of the produce places live on supplied from areas further away or even Texas, Arkansas, and Georgia.
From a recent visit, some fresh peaches from Porter, Oklahoma.
Local vine ripened tomatoes.
From left to right, fresh green beans, new potatoes, corn on the cob and okra.
Luckily I’m married to a woman who knows what to do with fresh produce. We eat well all sorts of produce all summer long. Green beans and new potatoes, watermelon, cantaloupe, orkra, corn on the cob (and chowder), various peppers, marinated cucumbers and onion, and zucchini. Sign me up!! Not to mention peaches, plums, blue berries, blackberries, cherries and other fruit.
How about you? Do you have access to fresh fruit and vegetables? Do you like them?
Porter peaches are legendary. There was a time when Weleetka Black Diamond watermelons were considered the best in the state. We have several farmers markets in our area but I think much of the produce is not truly local. Like you I am fortunate to have a wife that knows exactly what to do with a garden’s bounty.
Yummy! I’ve been craving okra and stewed tomatoes lately, but I haven’t seen any okra at my local supermarket. May have to resort to frozen. There are lots of fresh blueberries and Rainier cherries here, however, and we’ve been eating lots of those.
My post features Silver Falls and Grove of the Patriarchs at Mount Rainier
Oh, wow, those peaches look juicy and delicious. Haha … we could all use someone who knows what to do with fresh produce besides eat it. ๐
I know. Summer is fruits and vegetable season. I too love to have them in the summer time, when they are just so fresh.
Everything looks so good!I love going to fruit/vegetable markets!
I love fresh vegetables and fruit even though I am a big meat eater. Enjoy your produce!
Looks great ๐
Loved the post.
All that fresh produce looks really good. I am jealous. Any farmers market are not located nearby. I miss farm fresh.
Wonderful ‘summer theme’ photos of ‘your world.’ ^_^

oh your photos really show off the fruit and vegetables so well, makes me hungry for them…love this time of year.
Delicious shots.
Such pretty colorful food photos! Iโm really looking forward to going to our Farmers Markets again now that weโre home. We used to plan our dinners around the meat, now it is the opposite! Veggies rule.
