Heather and I on our recent short getaway to southeast Oklahoma had a great combination of activity and rest. We spent a lot of time at the cabin reading but we also spent a lot of time hiking and one afternoon we rented a kayak and a paddleboard at Broken Bow Lake.
The lake is also part of Beavers Bend State Park and we found a concession who is open on the weekend. I got the kayak and Heather got the paddle board. I can do paddle boards, I really can, kind of, but they are a lot of work. Kayaking is a lot easier. Heather loves paddle boards. She teaches a class in our gym’s pool where one stands on the boards and does things. I take the class but I am pretty shaky.
The lake was beautiful and the day was gorgeous. A slight haze in the air. I was wondering if was from the horrendous fires in California, Oregon, and other places in the west.
Being the weekend after Labor Day there were not that many people out on the lake. Seems like most of them were from Texas.
Heather showing her chops with the paddle.
And busting out some yoga moves for good measure.
We were out for two hours. We went here, there, and everywhere.
And then it was time to bring them in.
And of course I wore my Garmin watch to document the adventure. I mean it didn’t really happen if it wasn’t documented, right?
And then back to the cabin to chill. It was a great place to chill. We didn’t spend much times indoors. We spent most of the time on the deck with its sectional couch and the hot tub which I didn’t take a photo of for some reason. So if I didn’t take a picture of it, did it really exist?
I’m so thankful that we could take this little trip.
Anyway, we had a great time. I’m linking with Skywatch Friday. Go check it out.
Your cabin get away looked wonderful! Good for Heather being able to balance that way on the paddleboard. I’m sure the hot tub was a nice luxury to enjoy.
Sure is pretty. It quite smokey here although it was worst a few days ago.
Alan – it looks like you had a wonderful time. I am so impressed that Heather can do yoga on a SUP. I am lucky if I can jus sit on it and paddle! I far prefer a kayak! You are so funny – yes, if you don’t take a picture, it does not exist!
…years ago when I saw this in Hawaii, little did I know that it would become popular everywhere!
Hello,
Beautiful views of the lake and sky! That yoga move Heather is doing is amazing, I would have been in the water if I tried doing that, lol. Looks like a fun trip, great photos. Thanks for hosting Skywatch! Have a great day and a happy weekend!
Yoga on a paddleboard… that’s impressive!! I’m guessing I would have a hard time just standing up. Looks like a wonderful get-away!
Paddleboarding is very very popular here, so many places to do it. Looks like you both had a great time.
a beautiful day on the water and I love that rock fireplace
What a beautiful place to spend a few days! Days spent at the water are my favorite days!
That cabin looked do able for me. I had never heard of stand up paddleboarding until I visited Mt. Pleasant, SC (a suburb of Charleston, South Carolina) in 2015. It was so popular the parks and recs department gave classes in it. Great exercise, except my balance needs a lot of work first.
I never kayaked nor sup-boarded but both would be fun to try sometime. You must have had a great little getaway thingy going on there. And whutta fireplace, wow! Thanks for visiting me and thank you for hosting!
So beautiful pics.
Greetings
Beautiful view of the lake and great shots of Heather on the paddle board. She has good balance on the board. I think I will feel safer in the kayak because I am not a good swimmer. I like the fireplace in the cabin. That was a wonderful short getaway.
you and Heather look have great fun and so happy with kayaking….
Have a wonderful day.
Gorgeous sky shots and what fun you are having on the lake with that Yoga pro ` ^_^

Alan,
Looks so amazingly wonderful! If I weren’t such a big scaredy Cathy I’d love to be out on the water like y’all but you won’t catch me doing that. However, I love that outdoor fireplace and that looks like a purrfect way to wind the day down until well into the night. 🙂
It sounds and looks like a fantastic time. Happy Friday.
Good moves! Now I know why Heather is so fit. What a pristine looking lake. Seems like this area was far less touched by traveling smoke than my neck of the woods.
Admire anyone who can keep their balance as your wife does! Fun to see her in action:) happy you two could take off some time to relax and have fun!
A nice getaway.
Heather is good on that paddle board!!! we opted to buy a kayak (out of ‘safety’ reasons) instead of paddle board.
